boxers as guard dogs

i just though it was kinda neat i was doing searches on dogs and a site came up for a guy that tains dogs for protection, there like 10000 dollar dogs but he said he taines german shepards, dobermans, rottweilers, and BOXERS. then i did more seaches and it seems everyone choose these dogs for training in protection.

not that i would ever get a dog for that i just though it was kinda cool.

Nestle would make the all time worst watch dog. She is afraid of her own shadow. Porter on the other hand gets so excited, he may freak out someone who tries to break in.

There does seem to be alot of debate about Boxers as guard dogs ( touchy subject sometimes).

Our boxer does seem to have a natural protective instinct. When strangers come into our yard or home, Daisy always takes up a position between "us" and "them", nothing vicious just a firm stand and growl until we acknowledge the stanger as a friend... then, and only then, the wiggle butt goes into action.

It may be more a dog thing that a boxer characteristic, however, I've never seen this with any other breeds we've had in the past.

I dont know about training a boxer for PP work, but I would love to involved in training an american bulldog. A friend of mine shows AB's and has one we might train for PP work or at least for iron dog comp.

I am not sure how great a gaurd dog Rocky would make. He does have gaurding tendancies (he'll growl at the door if he hears a noise, stand between me and hubby if he senses an argument), which is necessary in your dog if you are going to train the for gaurd work, but he is really friendly and a bit fearful of loud noises.

I know Charlie Paper would make a horrible watch dog! LOL IF someone broke in I'm sure he'd go to where they were standing and do his boxer wiggle until they pet him, then be on his happy-go-lucky way.

chloe is an excellent watch dog come down the driveway and your in big trouble she is very territorial where my rottie maxi is the opposite everyone is her friend.

Well it is in the boxer heritage. They were used as war dogs and that is when the whites started to be undesireable because they were not easily concealed behind enemy lines. I've read in several different places that some police agencies would take one trained boxer over several other breeds. I can't remember where I read the article but the policeman commented on how the boxer may take longer to train but once they get it they never seem to forget a behavior. And because it takes longer to train them they usually go for the more common breeds. In all the books on boxers I have they always mention Shutzhund (sp?) training as one of the things they excel at. On a personal level I have a niece who is blind and her brail teacher (also blind) had a boxer guide dog before he was married and the boxer was in the wedding party. My sister in law was telling us she saw pictures when they were at the house for classes. So I think our babies can pretty much do anything they set their mind to and excel at it.

I saw that website or at least one like it. On the site they had two boxers along with a variety of other purebreds and they were like 25,000++++ depending on what they were trained in. I guess I'm just happy with my pet, intruders need to worry more about what I'm going to do to them then what my sweet dutch will do.I wouldn't want him to do anything thAt might get him injured he's my baby!!!

Sugar and Ray are very good, no-one is prepared to just walk into our yard because Sugar and Ray will be going crazy at the gate barking etc. But once we go out and let whomever in, they wiggle like crazy and just want attention from the person they were just barking at. All our neighbours have told us they check if they hear our dogs barking, there is always a reason. They have rotties either side of us and their dogs also bark, but they go check when our dogs bark. It really makes me feel safe, especially when I am alone at home.
