I have also heard this from many people and I have to say 'Roxy' is the most laid back dog I have ever had, we call her our 'couch potato'. 
Yes, she loves to play and burn, bean and jump around....but mostly? Her favorite pastime is 'kickin back' watchin the Animal Planet
My Tibetan Terrier is much more hyper than the Boxer.
But I do agree, every dog is different and some may be hyper just not our lovable 'potato'.

COCOSMOMMY, can we switch boxers for a couple of weeks and see if you can teach Tyson some of those good manners?! We are still trying to get him to sit politely for guests but to no avail. I agree that people think they're hyper cause the get so excited to see people. I think they are just high energy dogs and maybe if they can't release that energy I could see them going stir crazy. We have been through all levels of obedience classes but I just found a new one from a different place where they focus on recall (ours definitely needs some work) and polite greetings so guess what I want for my birthday!
