Boxers and Tea time

Why are boxers so funy at tea time. My last boxer Jac would be happily playing and as soon as you mentioned "Tea" he would stare and growl at Bess until she sat on the settee. As soon as I put their food down he was OK with her. Mikey on the other hand can be fast asleep, again mention "Tea" and he just dives at me ( sometimes reaching head height ) until I go to get his food. Maybe its just the way I say it, but Bess doesn't do anything odd

Jenny, too funny. I guess if it is a big problem you could try not to use the word 'tea' Dogs very readily learn all sorts of things about the words we use. If we say 'drive' the four Boxers nearly knock themselves out going to the car!

Isnt' that the truth! I have to spell out words like "park" , "drive/ride" because he's ready, right here - right now !

I have realized that even spelling the word now doesn't make any difference , Sergeant still knows what we mean. That is the price we pay for having such intelegent pets:D Next we will have to spell the word backwards, or have a little notepad and write it down!

Hi Jenny~~
A great way that I've found to stop my 2 yr old Sigmund from begging or staring when I eat is to correspond his meal times with mine. That way he is too busy eating his own food to be interested in anything else.
Dogs are of a "pack" mentality and it would seem that your little ones want to be included in your family tea time.
I hope that helps, as basic as it sounds.

My black Lab, Sunny and my Boxer, Ruby, are in the dining room when we eat, but aren't allowed to beg. They lay down and wait until we're done, before approaching the table, usually . Ruby lays on a scatter rug and Sunny typically lays at my side. Ruby is pretty laid back and pretty well always waits for acknowledgement. Sunny responds with loud and vigorous tail wagging to any mention of sunny, sun, black and lab. You can't even cut your eyes her way or you get a loud response. The tail wagging is followed by getting up and poking or nuzzling for attention, if you provide even the slightest acknowledgement!
