Boxers and Cysts!

Muggs is a little over a year old and is in two weeks having his second cyst removed. I was wondering how common this is in boxers. I hate having to keep putting him under to have these removed. This last one is on the very top of his head and is growing. Has anyone else had this problem. He is also prone to reactions from shots. Lumps and rashes stuff like that. Is he just sensitive or is this something Boxers have trouble with.

I was just wondering what the cysts look like we have a 4 yr old male and he gets some black moles? He has a rather large one on his paw and one another medium sized one on his back. Our vet said we need to get them removed so we're in the process of setting up a date now.

Our Brittney used to get cysts all the time. It seemed she had a cyst removed about every two years since she was a puppy. Many of them were warts, not unlike a human papilloma virus. They could grow in size pretty quickly. Our vet was always really good about letting us be there during the surgery. The last few cysts were removed under a local anesthetic because we were concerned about putting her under anesthetic at her age ( 7-9 yrs). Sadly, she has gone to the bridge, but we enjoyed 11 years with her, cysts and all.
As long as Muggsy's cysts are benign, I would treat them, but try not to fret about them too much. Check with your vet, to see if he/she is willing to use a local anesthetic and allow you to be there. We found that really helped Brittney and gave us a little more peace of mind. Good Luck!

Austin has lots of cysts. The vet said removing them would only be for cosmetic purposes, so they are staying. I'm not putting him thru surgery just for looks. I love him just the way he is!

I asked about the local but he said this one was too big. It is about the size of a quarter and it is kind of in the shape of a four leaf clover. The last one was just round. He said Muggs would have to go under for this one if it was smaller they could just burn it off like they do warts. Thanks for your input.

Warts or cysts

Jacob has had a small cyst right near his tear duct. Last summer he had to go under the knife because he had some epulis to be removed (mouth tumors). Our vet removed his cyst at the same time. I know Jacob is prone to warts, he has one near both of his elbows and a small one on his trunk. Our vet hasn't expressed much concern in his warts. What I don't like that I have noticed just recently, is that all of his nipples have turned dark dark brown? Is that something that happens with age (Jake's going to be 8 in Feb).??

Hi Courtney,

I keep hearing that it's pretty common in Boxers, unfortunately. We just had a (cancerous) Mast Cell Tumor removed from our 3 year old, Maddie!

I was suprised (and the vet was a bit suprised too) that she had it this young. Our male, Lennox, has a growth on his manhood or all places, that it getting removed soon.. Sigh...

Hi Courtney - I do hope Mattie is ok! The vet says when he removes the cyst he will send it to the lab just in case. He says he is almost positive it is nothing but just to be on the safe said he will have it checked for anything odd. I wish it was over. He has it removed on February 4th and everytime he has to have surgery I am a mess. I am always afraid something will go wrong. I would die without Muggs. He's my rock. I just hope for the best and want it to be over. Thank you all for your help. I do hope Mattie is doing well and good luck with Lennox. I hope I am spelling those names right.
