Boxer's and Cold Weather

Day before yesterday, Clia and I went to the park and played ball, but for a much shorter time than usual.

Normally, Clia wants to play ball forever, but this day, she wanted to leave early. It was cold, about 35 or 40 degrees, and a very brisk wind blowing.

The next day, I took her back, and she refused to get out of the car! I tried to pull her out by her shoulders, push her out from the back, lift her up, but she would not budge!

When we got home, the surrounding houses blocked most of the wind, and she was fine and wanted to run around.

Now, bottom line is I assume she didn't like the cold wind. Anyone have experience with Boxer's and sweaters??

P.S. I am having my home visit today from Partners in Boxer Rescue! That much closer to our second and, hopefully, third Boxer! If you look at www.boxerrescue.com, look at Max, the older fellow I want and am trying to convince my wife, and Spirit, the younger fellow we all want.

Yes, my Tina often wears a sweater in winter, because she is very short-haired and gets cold easily. Of course, first she hated her sweaters and tried to get rid of them, then she got used to them and understood it's much warmer and comfy. The only problem for us is other 'jealous' dogs :D who try to tear off a piece of Tina's nice sweaters during a walk :D :D

I just wanted to congratulate you on wanting to adopt!!

I love Max, he looks like such a sweet old guy...I really want him to find a forever home!

Spirit is also a little lovebug! I am crossing my fingers that your next post will be telling us about them BOTH!!

Good Luck ;)

I made a coat for Sergeant, it is like a horse blanket. It has fleece material on the inside and a waterproof material on the outside. At first he wasn't too sure about wearing it, but now when it gets cold he doesn't bother at all about getting it put on. He knows he is going for a walk and that is all he cares about.

when we let our 12 week old boxer outside and it was cold, we put a sweater on her and she loved it. She acted like she didn't even notice it being cold. When we put her out without the sweater, she just shivered all the time.

We had our visit on Friday and, on Saturday, they brought by this sweet reverse brindle boy, Shaka. He is on the rescue site. He is very obedient and well trained, housebroken, not a runner as they firs thtought, playful...everything we were looking for, and he is close by.

We were going to visit another one today in foster care, a white female, but something happened.

Clia developed a bad case of diarrhea. I think it is emotional as after the visit of Shaka, she was a little listless and, I think, depressed. So, we are going to put off the visit to Daisy, the white female a few days, and hopefully Clia will get over her jealousy!

By the way, I gave her Pepto-Bismol and am feeding her a half and half mixture of rice and boiled hamburger. This cured her last bout with diarrhea.

Will keep you updated.

We (my year old Boxer) live in Louisville, Kentucky and it isn't really cold, but near the high 30s into the 40s. I just bought "Penalty" a Baker blanket- they make horse blankets too- he loves it! He wears it and struts his stuff- he thinks he is too cool. When he goes on walks he wears it as well as in the back yard. He didn't even want to go out to play- now I can't get him in!!

Did you decide against getting Max? When I was torturing myself by looking at all those sweet faces I can't possibly adopt, Max was the one who stole my heart. He looks like such a sweet old guy.
