I would like to know, on behalf of a friend, if anyone has had the situation of introducing a boxer to a family with a 4 year old cat.

I tried searching but could not find anything, hence the question here (sorry but not too IT literate)

Any feedback will be appreciated and any advice.

Thanks

Boxers are usually good with cats, but if it runs it will get chased. The dog will probably be happier than the cat, unless the cat is used to dogs, or is really brave. My cat grew up with dogs so when she met Harley she knew not to run. I was a little worried because Harley has been known not to be good with other dogs, but he lets the cat stick her head in the food bowl while he is eating.

Mac Cant figure out What the cat is. he will sniff and bark at it and he wonders Why it will not play with him.

If you do a search here, using the terms cat* and cats, you'll find plenty of information that's been posted in the past.

The search button is located near the top of the page, in the blue bar with the log out botton ;)

My boxer boy is an angel with my newly rescued kitty. When we lived with my parents in Cali he lived with cats, and for the most part was fine. He was more inclined to chase one of my mom's cats, but I think that's because she ran from him, and he thought it was a game. But Rudy & Charlie Paper get a long really well. I think like any other breed it depends on the dog.

Having 4 cats and 2 boxers the best advice I can give you is to get a babygate and block off one room from the Dogs. This can be the cats safe room.

Gunner, older boxer, doesn't bother the cats at all. He could care less about them. The cats even stand over his food bowl while he is eating. Quinsi, the one year old cat terror , will give the cats no peace. He will chase them if they run from him. If they don't run he will lick them.(Taste test??) One of the cats will even rub all over him if he doesn't chase him. But we block off the hallway that goes back to the bedrooms during the day to let the cats have a safe area to run to when Quinsi wants to chase them.

I'm not sure how Simba would be around cats, specially since the cats in my area like to torment my dogs by laying in my front yard all day long. :) But like someone else mentioned have a safe place for the cat to go to that the dog can't get to. I've heard keeping the cat in another room for awhile and letting the dog smell it thru the door, then a baby gate with one on each side until they get used to each other. Hope that helps.

Tally and Rhubarb

Our new pup (now 4 1/2 months old) and cat are still trying to get used to each other, basically our cat stays well out of her way and when Tally sees him she tries to run and play, a couple of times the cat has hit out but not to scratch just to put her off.

Every time they meet they seem to get a bit more tolerant of each other. - see my gallery for a picture of both together, that kind of explains the relationship just now.

Hope this maybe helps

my 9 year old boxer is great with cats! We have had 3 different cats while she's been alive and she just doesn't worry about it at all. They get on fine. My golden tends to get scared of the cat and run and hide but my boxer doesn't care and neither does the cat!
