HELP!!! i have a toy poodle thats like 11 years old (i know i know shes old) i had her for about 8 years. anyway i just got my boxer 2 weeks ago and my poodle HATES her she always trys to bite her when they are near each other. is this just a Territory thing and when will it end.

Boxer puppies can be very exuberant and you will want to make sure that your senior poodle doesn't get pushed around and walked all over. Your poodle's pecking rank should be above that boxer's since she was there first. Try to reinforce that rank by feeding the poodle first, giving treats to the poodle first, acknowledging the poodle first, everything the poodle first. This will let the boxer pup know where it stands in the pecking order. It could be that they won't get along because poodles can be nippy, but with a lot of work you can make it a workable situation. Allow the poodle to put the pup in its place that is what older dogs do, they train the pup better then you could, because they think alike. ;) Both being females it could be a problem down the road when the boxer is an adult, unless of course she is an adult now and that could be the problem, she wants the alpha status.

I agree with that advice.

We had 2 toy poodles, ( 9 lbs male and 6 lbs female), when we brought home our first boxer puppy ( 12 lbs at 8 weeks old ).

My boxer, Daisy, let both poodles dominate until she was about 18 months old... when we saw Daisy begin to challenge the much smaller dogs we helped the transition along by feeding Daisy first, letting her in and out first etc... the poodles learned very quickly that Daisy is now the dominant dog. If we let Daisy continue to challenge the poodle's authority it may have lead to a vet bill or worse.

The poodles and the boxer get along very well, enthusiastically greeting each other after being seperated. When they are playing, ( and they play alot), the boxer will still roll over and let the poodles jump all over her.

I hope it works out well for you.

randy and Daisy

I am glad that it worked out for you. but dogs do not know size when it comes to alpha, beta in the family. by daisy letting the poodles play with her on her back says I am submissive. so maybe daisy is not alpha.:)

My miniature dachshund HATED Beau when I first brought him home. He constantly tried to eat him up. Beau continued to try to play with him. After about a week or two, Beau finally figured out that Bailey would let him know when he wanted to play and until then, don't bother him! Once Beau realized that Bailey is the alpha, all was well. They are now big buddies, but they still get into an occasional fight. Let them learn their places and they will probably get along better than they are right now.

how bad is it? you should never let it get so bad that one or the other get hurt.
if your poodle is just yelling then that is ok. what does the boxer do when the poodle gets mad? sometimes the elder dog will teach the younger one what is allowed and what is not.

As long as the boxer doesn't get aggressive, I'd let them duke it out. The puppy will eventually realize that your poodle isn't playing.
