OH MY LORD I AM PISSED!!! i think we have started to breed A$$HOLES!!! what the heck??? they seem to be coming out of the woodwork. Okay here is some advice.

-Take the dog- Thank you SOOO much for taking this SWEET SWEET baby.
-Make him sign a contract that states that he can NOT have the dog back!! i can send you what an owner surrender form looks like even though you wouldnt do anything just like that. AND PUT THE REASON HE IS GIVING her up
- as much as it kills me to say this. CONTINUE to be nice to him!!! and talk to him often, act like his bud. Later ask him if he got another dog and WAIT TILL HE SAYS YES and when he does ask him about breeding and if he plans to breed, if he says yes ask him when the next one is due cause you or someone you know are interested.
- Once he has the pups delivered call ANIMAL CONTROL!!! show them the contract that states why he gave the dog up and that he got another dog and bred the dog.
- Believe me ANIMAL CONTROL will step in. they want to get rid of BYB's as much as we do.
- if for some reason Animal control does nothing, contact me and i will tell you a few more routes to go!!

Thank you again for rescuing this poor dog!!!

I hope you get the poor girl. My rescue, Gretel, appears to have been a breeder for a BYB or puppy mill. She was dumped last fall. Thanks to a wonderful rescue group, she has a happy home for the rest of her life. I couldn't believe someone would get rid of such a wonderful dog just because she couldn't produce anymore, but obviously it happens more often than any of us care to think about. I would be hard-pressed not to rip that guy limb from limb.

Poor baby! Let us know if you get her. And please do what Heather said - it's a super idea. That way you can help his next boxer, too, even if she never knows it!

Thank goodness you were in the right place at the right time! Sounds like this boxer girl has found her guardian angel. angelicon

I hope and pray this is his last (and only) dog ever. Does he have any other dogs - any male(s) that he keeps for stud? Or does he have just the one abused female who he mates to whatever he can find? Grrrrrr....want very badly to leave him alone in a room with some BW members....

He has another boxer whom he bought to use for stud, but said that this boxer has the red mange, and he cant use him for stud. I am assuming that he is keeping him because he didnt ask me to take him. He led me to think he might give this one (the male) some attn, dont know why the poor girl didnt win him over.

Im not real sure about who he bred with, I didnt ask him. At least he didnt breed her to the boxer with the mange, because that is a blood carried disease, which he knows. But then again, whos to say he didnt, ya know? You are probably right in the fact that he probably bred with whoever and whenever. He did mention today she is due back in heat any day now. I hope I get her before that, because the vet charges more to spay if they are in heat.

The first thing she is going to do is go to the vet for a good workup, and get on some heartworm meds, and be spayed. I just hope and pray that she is in good health, and nothing is majorly wrong with her, that would make me even madder.

He told me today that one of his wifes cats laid open his male boxers head and has a gash across the top of his head about 3-4 inches long and gashed open about an inch wide. I said did you take him to be treated and sewed up? He said NO!! He said that would cost him about 300.00. I just rolled my eyes to him. He said he could patch him up at home.. what an idiot!smashicon

If he has a male boxer, my gut tells me that this vicious cycle is going to start all over again...

Keep talking to this guy - if he was willing to confide in you up to this point, maybe he respects your opinion and you can educate him on the proper care of animals.

Personally, without knowing much about the legal side of things, I think you should seriously consider contacting animal control about this guy. The one thing I do know is that if the dog has an injury that warrants medical attention, and he doesn't get it, then the owner can be charged with neglect.

If you're not comfortable contacting animal control, call up one of the rescue groups in your state and ask for their advice. My guess is they've seen this kind of situation in the past and can give you an idea as to what kind of approach to take. Sube Ru's Mom sounds like a great source of info, too!

Good luck and keep us posted!

That is such a sad story. I just don't understand how people can do that do animals! I hope you get her ASAP and please keep us posted. You are such a sweet caring person to do this.

I am glad to hear that you are going to get the dog. I might suggest getting a very simple "sale agreement" written up so he can't come back claiming you have stolen his dog. After you have that and the dog is at your home, next time you see that guy give him a piece of your mind.

I am so glad to hear you are going to take her!

With all of our dogs, people have asked us if we were going to breed and I've always given them my "God, no! There are too many dogs that need homes already..." speech. There are few things I hate more than BYBs.

I think you already have good plans for getting her spayed, and up to date on everything. Let us know when she comes home and how everything goes. We'll be thinking about you.

Good Luck,
Jen
