Boxer Restriction!?

I have been at my wit's end all month! My father's house, where my roomates and I have been staying to keep it clean while it's for sale, has now been bought. Unfortunatly, the family is giving us until the 30th to find an apartment. It's hard enough that we're still college students that are still new the whole rent and credit issue, but now all the places where it seems we'd be able to get into within a few days all have boxers under the restricted breed list! Mind you, these are places that allow dogs up to 70 lbs! I really don't know why, I wish they would just SEE my dog before doing that, but they just give me that whole "those are our rules" poop. Joker is a very smart and quiet dog, her vet loves her and she's always been gentle with children so I could at least prove she's better trained than the yappy toy dogs there.

Right now I'm running out of places in the Everett area of Washington and I would hate to have to live without my dog for 6 to 12 months (my dad could take her, but him and his wife already have two dogs). I'm really depressed about the issue and any suggestions, even kind words would really help right now.

What a dilemma to be in,wish I could help,it's sad that rules and regulations make this so awkward for you, good luck in finding somewhere so Joker can be with you:)

Sometimes if you have an interview with the landlord and they see how exceptional your dog is then they will bend the rules.
What did you think the situation would be when you got the dog?
Thank God my sister will not let my nephew get a dog. He wants a pitt or boxer but he is a senior in college. This is too transitional of a time for a dog. Too late for you but other college students please take heed.

I've had her for four years and boxers weren't much of a worry awhile ago (I had family who rented and had boxers) but now what's happening, I found out, is that most appartment places don't want to bother telling the difference between breeds, because apperantly the pitt owners are trying to pass their dogs as boxers. I found this out because my father's a police officer and he has to work with people around Everett and the pitt rings that are going around the area. They wouldn't even listen to me when I said I had her behavior assessed by her vet and her trainer and I had letters as proof. I've had a "resume'" of sorts because I like to be prepared when it comes to Joker. There is one place where the manager loved boxers and couldn't wait to meet Joker, but we're still waiting to be approved :( here's hoping though.

also maybe renting a house would be easier to find. You definately sound well prepared. A letter from your vet and trainer is a good idea.
best of luck.

We tried the houses, but a lot of them are either unavailable or don't like the idea of people as young as us living there *shrugs*. We are getting a place in the spring as soon as my roomie/brother that's in the Navy get's home. For now, I actually called that nice complex back and the manager is holding the apartment until we're actually approved without a fee. I really like this place, there's even a park right next to our building for Joker to play in. I'm staying confident about this one since it has high ratings and is actually affordable.

Try to find private owned apartments for rent instead of an apartment complex. With complexes, they already have policies in place- like you are finding out. With a private landlord, they pretty much make up their own rules and are more able to help you. References from vets and previous landlords should help. Her being at least 4 years old will help too. My landlord said no dogs at first, but I talked him into it ;)
Good luck- I know how hard it is to find affordable rentals with big dogs!

I am so sorry for the stress you are feeling. I really hope that things work out for you and Joker! Good luck!
