Boxer puppy food.. feeding Eukanuba!! eek

So I just read that Eukanuba is not a good choice. And I'm stuck with a 40 pound bag. She was on Iams puppy large breed before and I switched her to the Eukanuba. I just paid $50 for this bag so I'd hate for it to go to waste. What is so horrible about it? What if I mix her kibble with some cooked meat (chicken, beef, turkey) would that help UP the nutrition factor? I want to feed her the best, but my wallet has to be able to afford it. I was looking at the royal canin and blue buffalo. I just don't know what to do!! There are so many choices and everytime I think I'm making a pretty good one compared to regular old puppy chow I find out I'm wrong. Sorry I'm asking so many questions. I just want the best for her.

I know what you mean. There are so many brands and so much info out there. Take a look at www.dogfoodanalysis.com. It helped me make the right decision. I almost made the same mistake because years ago I had my rottie on Eukanuba and I thought it was good for him.

Boxer are prone allegies, and Eukanuba has corn as a main ingredient which is hard for dogs to digestive. It also has animal by products, the parts of the animal that we throw away and don't eat.

Your best choice is the find a 4 star or higher food on www.dogfoodanalysis.com and switch. You mentioned Blue Buffalo which is a good choice (4 star). It costs the same as the Eukanuba and maybe even lower depending where you live. Get a small bag and gradually mix with the Eukanuba that you are feeding her over a 5 to 7 day period.

The money that you spend on the food will save you in the long term over health expenses. I had my Tyson on Blue but he did not do well on it so I switch him to Natural balance sweet potato and fish,

Finding the food that works best for your puppy takes time. I hope this helps.

Another way to make better food choices is to literally NOT buy anything from your local grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc.... Also stay away from anything you see advertised on TV, minus *some* of the advertisements on specialty shows which usually air on Nat. Geo or Animal Planet. I have seen some commercials on various programs of a few of the healthier choices. They are few and far between but they are there from time to time.
Finding a local pet store will provide you with some of the healthier food options. A few stores will even have a "buy so many get one free" program. This is helpful as far as costs go. Also remember that the healthier foods, though more expensive require LESS food per meal. A lot of the manufacturers of these types of foods also have a 100% guarantee and if for any reason you want to return it you can.

There is nothing saying that you can't feed the food you have already purchased. Just buy something healthier to add to it while eventually weeding it out by adding more of the new food over time. Never a good idea to switch "cold turkey" from one food to another. Give their systems a chance to get used to the new stuff.

You could always save out enough to make a gradual switch and try returning the rest to the place of purchase.

Yea, I went on dogfoodanalysis.com and that's where I found out Eukanuba is horrible. Sheesh.. I'm thinking of a raw food or cooking for her, since that seems to be the best bet and I know what's going in it. I'm a chef as well so that helps

Jonah was on Puppy Pedigree when I got him. Now he has happily switched to Blue Buffalo. Not only is it a 4 star dog food, I can afford it and buy it at Petsmart. Good luck in your search. I have learned so much from this website. Like I never knew some dog foods were so bad. But, thankfully I found Boxerworld. And can help my growing puppy be extra happy and healthy.
