Deuce, my Samantha is one like yours, I think. She was allegedly bred from two pure-bred boxers, although I never saw the parents first hand. She had AKC papers, too, but her muzzle is way too long! I just call her my 95% boxer--all boxer except the muzzle!! She acts like a 100% boxer though!

I think it should also be noted that anyone who has a "breeding pair" or (in this case has 5) boxers that they continuously breed together would not be considered a reputable breeder. Not by Boxerworld's standards, anyway.

When looking for a pup, I would consider a reputable breeder to be a breeder that shows her Boxer, finds out what her Boxer's faults are, and SEEKS out a male that has attributes that offset her females faults. This breeder, on top of that, fully health tests her Boxer (OFA Hips, heart, thyroid, etc...) and wouldn't consider a stud that wasn't fully health tested himself.

Back to the original question though - I suppose there is no way of knowing whether your dog is 100% Boxer without doing a DNA test. He could just be poorly bred. But he's still cute as a button and I'm sure you enjoy him and couldn't imagine your life without him!

Good luck to you

I can see the boxer face

He is a very cute boxer, I would not worry about it. He looks precious to me.
I also have a full blood boxer and if anyone told me he looked like a mix, I would shrug it off. It is a fact that mixed breeds do make some of the finest dogs. So either way, you have a Champ. Just Love your dog and He will reward you 10 times as much.

He is absolutely adorable.

My mom did cocker spaniel rescue for years, and there were sometimes that some rescues came in that didn't look like cockers at all. They were to tall, or had a long face. It was bad breeding most of the time.

Do you love him to death? That should be all that matters he is YOUR baby and it doesn't matter what others think.

Is he black? I cant really tell from your pics if he has any brindle markings.
This is sad , but what happens is, people get two boxers that are registered and they think that's all it takes to make quality dogs. Just becauue the dog is registered with the AKC, does not mean it has perfect boxer characteristics. There are many poorly breed boxers out there. and then those pups are breed to other poorly breed boxers, and so on and so forth. Yet, they are all registered. He surely is boxer. Maybe a mix, maybe just poorly breed.

The important thing is he's yours and you are his. Even if it is a mix, possibly not, that boxer personality should be showing it's true colors. He sure is a cutie pie. Lots of fun I bet!

Deuce

Wow, although Deuce is absolutely adorable, he doesn't look like a pure Boxer to me either. But who cares.....he's precious. But I will say if it were me, I would probably bring it to the attention of the breeders that they are either breeding poor stock, and not knowledgeable enough to be breeders, or they are selling dogs under a false pretense (being pure not mixed).

Love your baby either way.

Boy have I walked in your shoes!
I have a very poorly bred pomeranian. She weighs about 20 or 25 lbs. Everytime I have her out people ask if she is part pom. I also have AKC papers on her, but I she is huge for a pom, with very long legs. I checked out some of the pom rescues on the net and saw many, many on there that looked like her. I now know she was poorly bred. I was upset at first with the questioning, but she is 3 yrs old now and a wonderful girl. I would never regret getting her.
Your boy is a cutie, I do have to agree that he looks more like a mix than just poorly bred. Who cares though, you have puppy love!

He is soooo cute. He does look black. He also has a slightly longer face--but I've seen full Boxers with long faces too. He has definite Boxer characteristics. Unless you want to show, I wouldn't worry--Deuce is beautiful.

Deuce is adorable...but I too doubt very much that he is full blooded boxer...We have a 21 wk old male and he has all the characteristics of a boxer and has from day one...I've heard of people paying $700-$800 for boxer puppies just to realize as they get older that they're nose is getting long and thier head is getting more narrow...I think it's usually as they get older that a mix or badly bred boxer starts showing characteristics not like the boxer....
But as several people have already said, all that really matters is that you love him & he loves you...I've owned several mixed breeds over the years and they've been just as lovable as any pure breed....but if you paid more then a few hundred dollars for him I would be in contact with his breeder if I were you to get some answers as to why he looks mixed !
Good Luck!
:)
