I noticed more comments about pit bulls with the brindle male I have. Not so many with the fawn female before. People comment that they never saw a striped boxer before. Duh!! Anyone ever heard of Animal Planet?

Yup, the jowls usually show up as they get older and they start to look like a boxer.

OMG, if that's the case. my Butch's jowels are going to hit the ground when he's done growing.

Both my girls are/were reversed brindle and you can't imagine how many times I was told they must be pit bulls or pitbull mixes because "Boxers just don't come in that color" Really, I have known a lot of pitbulls and actually haven't seen too many pitbulls in that color either. I actually had one lady repeatdly tell me that it was okay that Freya jump on her( she was ten weeks at the time) because "they" just can't help it. I explained that she would be big someday and I wanted her to learn that sitting nice gets you more lovings. She said" Oh, I have owned many pitbulls they never stop jumping up. THey just can't help themselves" I had to walk away fast! Not only could she not get it right but if she owns pitbulls and doesn't request basic manners, she is contributing to the reputation they have recieved. I used to work for a family that had eight "unadoptable" pi bulls and they were super sweet but no longer trustworthy because of their former lives- that, my friend, is sad. Sorry- went off on a tangent.

More then one person has asked me if Cosworth is "some sort of giant bull dog or something". I never understood that one...
That makes a bit more sense as the bull dog contributed to the development of the boxer breed... except, there isn't any such thing as a giant bull dog. Hmmm.

Most of the comments I've gotten were also when Guinness was a puppy, before he grew more fully into his boxer looks. Now I've gotten all sorts of weird things, like "is he part greyhound" (as he's very lean and still basically an adolescent). I just see it as an opportunity to educate people on the breed, unless they're being really rude and are clearly not worth the bother.

I've heard the exact same things with my brindle female. I live in a townhouse, backing onto a Lake, and there's a bike path, needless to say I have a lot of foot/bicycle traffic behind my house. Whenever Angel is in the backyard, no matter what she's doing, I see people point, and "scurry" along past my house! The craziest thing I encountered happened last summer. I was walking Angel, and approaching us was an older lady. She looked at Angel, and stopped dead in her tracks. I kept on walking, trying to stay as far away from this lady as possible, because I thought she was nervous about bigger dogs. Well, she stopped me, and asked me whether or not my dog was a pitbull. I said no, this is a Boxer....she then proceeded to say that she didn't believe me because Angel looked "exactly" like the dog (it was a pitbull) that attacked and killed her shitzu (sp?) last year. I told her that no, Angel was a boxer and tried to inform her of the differences in the physical characteristics between the two breeds. After about 10 minutes, she pretty much ignored what I had tried to explain, and said that she thought Angel was a pitbull. Normally, this would make me sooooo ANGRY, but I took it in stride and just kept on walking. If someone asks me a question about my dog, I am more than happy to try and explain anything and everything about the Boxer Breed. BUT, when someone is going to just be ignorant, and accuse me of lying (lol) about what kind of dog I own, I just have to walk away. I don't think Boxers look anything like Pitbulls, especially when they are older...Angel was 2 1/2 at this point... Whew! That's my story !!

Last night leaving puppy class, I got the miniature boxer question. At least they knew what breed he was and not a pit bull.

You have to love the droopy lips and slobber.
