I have a dilemma. I already have one great boxer. I have absolutely no complaints about Duke. He's 3 times as great as I thought he would be. Now I'm debating getting a weimaraner. I am also debating a female boxer, though I have heard they are normally more dog-aggressive than males. If ANYBODY out there has experince with weimaraners, or have witnessed boxers and weimaraners playing well together, PLEASE respond! I want to do one or the other soon so I don't force a very young pup to go for walks in the Chicago winter. I expect most to say go for another boxer, but any knowledge you have to offer on weims would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I really have no experience with Weimereiners either - but they are stunning dogs. I love their looks.
When Mack was about a year old and pretty big, we ran into a man who had a pair. The male was quite a bit bigger than the female - the male was friendly and wanted to play, the female was standoffish and snippy.
I had a female Boxer for 12 1/2 years and she was very dog aggressive - just hated every dog she ever met, though she equally loved every human that crossed her path. I have been very pleasantly surprised by Mack's temperament - I am now sold on males.

Okay, weims are beautiful. I will give you that. They cut quite a figure, but........

I house sat for a former boss. Gorgeous house, 2 6 month old weims. Nick and Angel (yeah, right!) My baby Rebel was also 6 months, and I was told I could take him with me for the week. Nice, huh? Huge home, pool, 3 dogs, lots of fun, no?

NO. These dogs were uncontrollable. Now, I am not an expert, but I have trained dogs of all shapes and sizes in the past. Both were bouncing off the ceiling, eating the sprinkler heads, leaping over me (no joke, I'm 5 feet 3 inches), dragging palm fronds into the pool. Jumping in the food dishes to scatter the kibble, etc. Three days into this experience, I came down with strep throat. 105 fever and all. I cannot blame the weims for that, although I tried:) They never did calm down. After the week was over, my boss asked how they were. I am such a chicken, I said.....Oh they were no trouble at all.

Seriously, when I was researching breeds prior to getting my Boxer obsession....I was considering a Weim. Everything I read and heard from breeders caused me to change my mind. I was told they were 'hyper', whereas Boxers are 'active'. There is a difference. I was also told they had a tendency to be mouthy and nippy. Lastly, the activity level required to mentally stimulate them was greater than the Boxer required. All of those reasons sold me on the Boxer.

I am sure a Weim would be great for your Boxer. Just weighing in with my opinion. Keep me posted. I will happily enjoy a Weim vicariously:D

Some guy used to bring his 2 weims to the dog park and they loved to play w/ Tyson and Jade. I don't think you would have a problem. And for female being more dog aggressive, I disagree. My experence is that males are more dog aggressive. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I have a female and male boxer. My female is not dog aggressive at all. In fact she is 8 years old and Rocky is 20 months old. Sam really does not care to be too close to Roc. I know she loves him but she is a bit stand offish. But, I have never had any problems with fights. She has always been good with other dogs too. Rocky is probably alittle more aggressive with dogs. Not in a bad way but I have to watch him with other males. He is fixed but still has that male ego.

I also had wiermaners growing up. I Love them. In fact before a friend turned me on to boxers I was heading that way. They are wonderrul dogs and very sweet. Growing up we had 3 all together . They were all different tempermant but all good dogs.. Good Luck with your decison.

Boxers #1 over Weims

My father raised Wiemaraners, I had one many years ago, beautiful to look at but a house dissassster! Hyper, destructive, stubborn and really meant to hunt. I had a male boxer after that dog which I had to eventually give away because he was too much trouble and there is no comparison BoXERS ARE THE BEST DOGS! My second boxer was Athena....what a wonderful girl, the best Dog I ever had , kind, gentle fun, playful, did destroy a few things growing up, but always eager to please. I now have a male who is good too, but much more agreesive than the female.
Get another boxer , you will never be sorry!!!

I've just emailed this page to my sister who has a 6-month Weim which is supposed to be her son's dog! Jake has had surgery once already - they removed a very neatly folded pair of knee-highs from his tummy! Apparently they will eat anything and everything. I visited her in June and found him to be very 'nippy' in fact I came back covered in bruises from his nips. Also found him to be very hyper - moreso than the Boxers at that age. Our female Boxer is certainly not aggressive - neither of them are for that matter.
