Boxer on the LOOSE

My parents live in Lil' Washington, NC, heading down towards Bath, NC. (for those that may know the area, it's called Hawkin's Beach, again near Camp Leach or the sanitary landfill). Any way, if you are missing a boxer, docked tail with regular- floppy - ears, it is on the loose in that area. My parents have been trying to catch him/her since Sunday of last week- OCT 2nd. They say (s)he might be a brindle and does have a white flash on the face. Given that we (daughter and son-in-law) have a fawn boxer, my mom&dad are doing every thing in their power to catch this cutie. They have been leaving food out and been on the look-out all week. My mom has called the vet's office & is checking the newspaper for "lost dogs", to no avail. Every time there is a boxer site-ing, (s)he runs off--- very skiddish. They are not sure if (s)he is full-blooded boxer, but they & all the neighbors (all 10 of them) are aware that we will take care of him/her if caught. Did anyone lose a boxer/mix in this area or does anyone have any techniques on "catching" skiddish dogs? This area is out in the booneys and sometimes people do drop off dogs (damn lazy, mean people :( ). A female chihuahua has also been seen during this same time frame. ?any correlation? Luckily, there is a sanitary landfill (ie- trash dump) within a couple of miles, so there is food debris...but we want to catch him/her...help, please :)

I would use food. Find where the boxer is and just leave some food out for a couple of days. How close are they able to get to the dog?

What about this

Try using some benedryl added to the food. This might calm the dog down enough to be able to get some trust and get close enough to grap him. Just a thought.

My parents' home is up on 8 ft pylins (sp?)- 8 ft up in the air , since they are on the waterfront (Pamlico River). The few times they have seen the boxer, it has been from up there- through the kithen/living room windows, and as soon as she opens the window to whistle or opens the door to get his/her attention, the dog runs. My dad is outside a lot but doesn't seem to see the boxer then. The dog only seems to get the food when no one else is around. Poor soul, (s)he is probably sooo scared. They've also seen the dog from the car and as soon as they stopped the car to get out, the dog looked up and ran. This breaks our hearts because all we want to do is help. There are so many trees around that the dog disappears in the woods/brush. (S)he seems to be sooo afraid. The benadryl seems to be a good idea, but it probably won't work quick enough to slow him/her down before the boxer cutie goes into the woods again :( Thanx for the ideas. We still going to put out more food (w/ benadryl maybe). Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Did they catch the poor baby? I know some BW members live near there..it's a little to far from me but I know exactly where it is...have you called a rescue maybe they know of one missing...keeping you in my thoughts!

one week later

It's almost been a week now since the 1st boxer site-ing. My mom & dad have not seen him since my 1st post :( I'm hoping it's good news- maybe (s)he went home?!?!? They are still leaving food out, so we'll see.
