Boxer on "That's My Baby" on Animal Planet

Did they mention anything about the breed standard, health testing, etc.? The few episodes of that show I've watched have been abysmally silent on the topic of responsible breeding; it would be nice to find out they've changed their approach...

Ditto that sentiment. I watched one about goldens and thought the exact same thing. They were selecting puppies for service dogs, so I am sure the breeding was very controlled for health and temperment, but the show made no mention of it.

I watched it today while playing "Keep Away Cuz" with Charlie & Emma. I didn't hear anything about "responsible breeding". All the Boxers were beautiful. The puppies were SO cute. Made me want another one.

I cant say anything about health testing for sure but she did say something about one of her sons from a past litter is being shown and I saw ribbons on her wall that looked like they were from dog shows(had framed show dog pictures next to them). So it does seem like she shows so I would bet she does health testing. And I saw that she was screening people as well. I havent seen any other thats my baby shows with them being that careful.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. :( Showing does indicate that a breeder is at least concerned about the conformation standard (or wants to appear to be so), but there are plenty of show folk - highly "successful" ones, in fact, that don't do much health testing at all.

Good question JulieM. I've actually seen a few of those shows and was very surprised that some of the people that they feature don't seem to have a clue as to what they're doing. It would definitley be a good thing if they would advertise "responsible breeding" and not encourage anyone who is surfing the T.V. to start breeding because the puppies were so cute. You would think being "Animal Planet" that they would only choose a Responsible Breeder and have them talk about all the work and money they put into it.

i watched one, i think it was feturing rotties or some other dog with a bad reputation and the breeder actually talked about responsible breeders and even mentioned going to shows and getting involved with a rescue group - i was proud, although that is reall one of the only ones i can recall
