Boxer Pal
Hi everyone, I am a newbie... I absolutely love this site. I have been reading and learning and hoping to learn more all the time. Last August I went to buy my son a boxer for his birthday. Which I did... I also came home with Coffee Bean my sons dogs Alond Joys full sister (coffee bean). We have wonderful boxers of 11 months old now. This past week I thought I needed to give another boxer a home. I went to the local animal shelter on June 21st, and came home with a 3 year old boxer boy. He had been dropped off from a family that had not taken such good care of him. I knew I wanted him as soon as I seen him. He would not come in from the outside like the others dog... I walked up to the front told the man I wanted that dog. I walked with him to the back to get my new dog, I paid and went right to the vets with this poor skinny, bones showing, coughing baby boxer with large brown greatful eyes. He had kennel cough, and had a collar that was about 5 inches to tight, the poor dog was in pain from the tight collar as well as coughing so bad it would make a grown man cry. I know I had to save this dog... I loved him from the start... I got him heart worm tested which was negative, what a happy feeling that gave me, then I had his shots and a set of two pills to give for his coughing.... I then set up an appointment for the following week to have him neutered.... He has been home now with us and his new sister coffee Bean and I have to tell you is doing very well. He is over his cough... He would not come near me or anyone the first day. He stayed to the back of the yard all day and night. He would wag his little short tail when he did see us coming, but we always had to go to him. He would not come to us. I have to say now he has found that sitting on the large rug on the huge patio with the cover over it beats the dirt... He likes the ceiling fan that blows air and keeps flys down too. He comes in the house with us now, but has to be begged to come in. I have to leave the door open and walk away from it, but he will come in every time now... He seems to have found he likes our house. He follows me from room to room... and knows that food is wonderful here. The only thing is he seems to not like the home made doggie bones the other two dogs love... I think his teeth may need looked at...it is hard for him to chew. So, I take left over steak, T-bone and grid it in the moulinex for him, he loves that. He doesn't like pork, chicken or most table scraps...but will eat his dog food just fine. I need to get some weigh on him, he is about 45 pounds and could really use about 10 more pounds easily....He is right by my computer chair with me as I write this... I have given him a bath, brushed all the old hair off him now, and he is wearing a very nice leather collar that is very loose.... He loves his new yard, and when Coffee bean barks he runs to help her look at what ever she is bothered by....Anyway, I will be posting pics of them both and am very happy to say his life from here out will be filled with love and kisses and food to fill his belly as well as attention which I know he must have never had. His scares from his past living on a chain will remain, but you can already see in his brown eyes, he is one HAPPY DOG...Oh one more thing, his name is T-Bone Tanner.... pretty good since his favorite food so far is T-bone Kind of odd he is so picky ... but that is ok, he has a lot of time to make up for...I want him to forget all his pain and only know happiness and love now...It has really given me hope reading about how others love their dog/dogs on here... I think that there are many great people... especially boxer people.... it sure shows if you just read this site... Well best of luck to you boxer/all dog lovers of all types and I will get some photos on here soon. T-Bone Tanner and Coffee Bean both wish you all well, as well as my sons dog Almond Joy. Have a wonderful Boxer life... learn a lot from your boxer... they do teach us all so well....
