Hi all,

now I have a question,

my Boxergirl ,2 Y. recently had developed a tumor on her hindpaw. I took her to the vet and she said, maybe the tumor will go down, since this seems to happen a lot. My main Concern was her being so skinny, you can see all ribs and backbone.

They did some test and it seems that she has cancer inside her body. The vet said, an Operation at this time may make her even weaker. Besides all that, she's feeling fine and eats well, no problems there. But all that food doesn't seem to go anywhere. She slowly looses weight. She's at 35 pounds now.

Any suggestions on how to make her gain a little?? I am already giving extra can food for the fat.

I'm sorry. Cancer is such a hard illness to deal with.

You might want to check out the barf forum and think about putting her on compelete natural organic diet. When dealing with cancer like with people you want to feed her chemical free foods and water. Avoid sugar, molasse, white potatoes, to many carbs. Check her cookies and treats and make sure they don't have molasses in them. Also avoid glucosamine and spiralina because they change to sugar in the body. Boost up her immune system, but if you are givng a vitamin pet tab from the pet store be careful because they have fillers and sugar. Also see if you can find a holistic vet that works with cancer.

I'll put some healing energy out there for your girl, hang in there and if you need any help let me know

:)

:( Thanks for your replies so far,

Yes,it's a sad subject, you tell me. I've shed some tears already.

But what we decided to do, is just to make life for her as happy as can be. She's in good condition ,loves to play with our other Boxer and jump around as always.

Who knows how long she can last. I will read about the nutrition links and try to figure out, whats best for her.

In my picturegallery are some pics taken 6 months ago, you can see how skinny she was then, in comparison to our puppy.

Dear Elke,
I am so very sorry to hear about your girl, and shes so young and all:(

The natural food diet would be good for her with a little added fat perhaps? See how she goes for a while. Who knows it may help perk her up and get a little weight back on her, but I imagine she is showing boney due to the cancer. God, how I hate that disease!!!!!

My dear Rose has breast cancer, she is 8 yrs and so far, seems fine. But we all know it is only for the short term.

One thing I know in my heart, is I will let her go to the bridge when I see she can no longer cope. She is so proud she would hate me if I let her become anything other than the "Queen Rose" that she is. Old darling:)

My thoughts are with you and I know how heavy your heart must be at this time.

Rose sends her boxer loves to your girl XXXXX

Thanks Debbie,

I sure need some good words. I have to say, for the 2 Years I have had her, she gave us so much Joy.

I wanted a Boxer since I was 6 Years old, but my parents never gave in.
Then, we lived in Germany, where we couldn't afford the high taxes a Year. When we decided to move back to the US, it was clear, I would have my dog. I was so happy, waited almost 30 Years and it made it easier for me, to leave my family and friends behind, thinking about the wish be fulfilled.
My kids were so anxious too.

We knew we would choose our dog as soon as we would get settled, so I didn't rush it.

The weird thing is, Chucky (my kids picked the name), came to choose us. Her Owner didn't care about her very much and we found her tied to a fence with a belt one night and took her home late at night that day.
We waited ,trying to find her owner and 2 days later , somebody showed up. I cursed him out a bit and he took off.
2 days later Chucky made her way back to our house. We then waited one week for her owner to show up again. I knew, she wanted to stay with us. I then convinced the Owner to give her to me and offered him a 100 Dollars. He looked like he could use some food for hisself, so he took the money, and she was mine.

Ever since that day, she has been a great dog. I wish and hope, she has many more years to go.......

just had to say that.....Elke:)

Oh Elke, you and your family are such wonderful people and I'm glad you got Chucky away from her previous owner. For that I think Chucky will recover very soon and spend many more years with you and your family. Best wishes.
