Hello

My real name is Danielle. I live in Fort Myers Florida. I have been searching for web sites articles and such for ever and just now found you guys.:( This web site needs way more publicity!

What makes me so diffirent is that I know nothing about the boxer breed, except what horrible things people say about them. I'm not mad I just wish we could educate them! I am 20 years old and live with my boyfriend. we have been together for 5 years.;)

For my 19th birthday he brought home this sweet little 4 week old puppy. (We talked about this and I said I did not want a dog, My family has 2 Labs and 17 birds, the house was emaculate my mom is a neat freak. So you can see when I moved out I wanted a break) Anyways I fell in love with her. We named her Keila
(key-la) Keila monster! :D We were best friends, we went every where together! well i thought that she needed a play mate. So for months I tried. ( We got Keila for 20 dollars from some mexicans that kept the puppies in a garage under a rusty old car with oil everywhere.) I was looking for a free pit. again. We were told she was half pit half rott! She's not. She is half pit half? Im not sure lab i think! Anyway she was 6 months old before i found her a play mate! The guy told me she would be 15 dollars and that she was half pit half blue tick hound! She may very well be part hound but she is a BOXER no doubt. All brown, crooked white strip betweer her eyes that runs along the right side of her face, not center. White paws, tip of her tail is pointy and white, just the tip. She has floppy ears and a full tail. Distorted diamond on the back of her neck.
My question is she is now 8 months old Oh her name is Timber! AKA Buster Brown. (nd I should have started a while ago but like I said I know nothing about Boxers i thought all dogs except dalmations were the same) But I need to start self training her. But how can I do this when I have no clue what type of boxer she is. There are so many breeds I am just Flabergasted. I just dont know where to turn! Let me just say that I not knowlingly picked the best dog on the planet. And I want to understand her. Shes my baby and I want to treat her the best I can. So any help for me! Please write back.

Sorry I don't understand, what do you mean what type of boxer?? There is only one "type". A boxer is a boxer. Sorry if I misunderstood.
Do you mean what type as in the other breeds she is mixed with?
Does it really matter at this point what breed she is with the training? There are lots of books, classes for her, that doesn't make any difference to what the breed is.

Welcome to the Boxer World and can't wait to see pics!!

Maybe someone else can help you on this one, good luck!!!:)

Well Like there are Labs Right. But in that family there are Golden Retriever, Black Lab, Chocolate Lab, Newfoundland Retrievers.

Well I typed in Boxer one day in a search. And it took me to this web site that had like 50 listings of specific breeds of boxers.

and I heard that to properly train you'r boxer you should know what type specific type it is.

Is that misinformation?

Maybe I helped explain myself more, Sorry!

danielle,
hello, and welcome to the site! as eddie's mom said--a boxer is a boxer. now, there are different colors of boxers (fawn, brindle, reverse brindle, etc.), but they are all boxers none the less. same with labs: there are different types of retrievers (golden retrievers, labrador retrievers, etc.), but as far as labs go, they only come in different colors(black, yellow, and chocolate). also, you mentioned you wanted to start self-traing your dog, but you may also want to consider enrolling her in obedience classes. i say this because there are many advantages to going to a class, but there are also a few advantages to training your dog at home, too. in the end it is totally up to you. the important thing is to get her some training, right? i hope this might help some. keep us all informed of how things are going!

Thanks

Yes see you know what I mean! I guess that it doesn't matter what she is for training purposes. I was just misinformed.
But I would still love to know! See I no way have the money to put her in a class. I have 2 of them and unless I do the both of them I think it would be a waste of time. Bad habits tend to rub off on siblings! If you know what I mean. My 8 month old never really jumps up, she is the brown boxer with the stripe between her eyes. It could be that she's on the little fatty side too though.
She's just thick. she does not get enough exercise. anyways my other half pit half boxer is a non stop jumper. I use the knee in the chest, the look straight into the eyes and hold there snout, talk with the deep voice and tell them you are going to cut her leggs off and beat her with the bloody ends if she does'nt stop jumping up, move. Nothing. Nothing keeps this dog from jumping. in one aer and out the other. But my point is that she is 14 mos and now my 8 mos old is starting to do it because she sees her sister doing it! And it hurts she jumps up and wraps her arms around you and digs her dew class so deep I wanna beat her sometimes. but with all my frustration I never hit my dogs. i can't they dont really understand that! So you see why I must try to do this on my own?

Call me crazy, but why would you want your Boxer to stop jumping? I think it's great. I mean of course they need to learn "down" and "off", but when I come home from a long days work...I look forward to both of my Boxers "bouncing" like they do!

I would highly recommend reading "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson. It's required reading for anyone that wants to understand their dog better. It is an excellent dog training book. If you can only afford one, that is the one to get

Find a training center in your area. Classes are not generally expensive.

Around here, a Level 1 (beginners class) runs 8 weeks for $65.
They teach you the proper techinques for dog training.
You go to class 1 x per week, and also work with the dog at home for the other 6 days. You MUST work with the dog everyday for 10-15 minutes per day, to benefit. Find a training center that teaches positive training techniques.

Take 1 dog to class, and then train the other one at home, if you have to.

I would recommend taking both to class eventually, for the socialization.
