Boxer Pal
Howdy all!

My name is Patrick. I finally got registered with Boxerworld, mostly to use the search function (non-members can't search Boxerworld). I don't have a Boxer... yet, but I've only just begun my search for Breeders. So, I decided I might as well say hello! I've read the rules and would like to express my gratitude to all that keep this websight maintained so someone like myself can benefit.

For those who care: I am from Dallas, TX. I'm recently divorcing so I'll have a lot of free time on my hands. I've been researching and dog breeds for the last 6 or 7 years now, but until recently haven't had the time/availability to raise a new baby.

About 3 or 4 years back I decided on a Boston Terrier, but never got one. Then about a year ago I met a Boxer owner. The Boxer's name is Cassius. I absolutely fell in love and now I visit as often as I can without imposing!!

I've only been able to visit one Breeder so far and two others I've contacted aren't returning my emails so I'll wait till after the holidays and restart my search. I'm very excited and anxious, but I'm also willing to wait as long as neccesary because anything that precious is worth waiting for. Once I do get a baby I'll be going nuts with the photos so I'll hook ya'll up. I suspect with all my newly found time I'll be investing a lot of effort into training and fun stuff with my new buddy. I've read quite a number of books on Boxers and Dogs in general and I especially liked the ones I read about positive reinforcement training with as little as possible aversives. I've always trained my dogs that way just out of common sense and it was a relief to finally read my feelings on the subject put into structured, researched training methods and behavior comprehension.

In February, I'm moving into another place down the road from a popular Dog park in Plano. I can't wait till he/she is old enough so I can meet up with all ya'll other Boxer nuts in the Dallas area!! Sometimes I go anyway just to get my dog "fix!"

Patrick, Glad you joined, but have you thought about a rescue dog, there are a lot of abandoned Boxers out there that need a good home & all of them don't have major issues, most of them just need loving homes & someone that understands the Boxer Breed. Please do some research on this,I think you have a lot to offer a rescue Boxer. LOL, Hanley

I think it's like mandatory for everyone considering getting a Boxer to consider getting a rescue ain't it? If not it should be ;p

Yah, I've researched that.

I, like many, however, want to start with a blank slate. I don't want to worry about possible health or emotional problems. I am also going to get much more involved with him/her. A hobby if you will. I'm thinking AKC agility, obediance, all that and conformation, too. I have the time and money and interest. I've always been involved with my dogs. I don't consider them just a "pet" but moreso an "animal friend."

Just curious, why did you suggest that?

The reason I ask, is because there are a lot of Boxers in rescue & high kill shelters that need a good home & I thought you could give one a good home with the love they deserve. I have a rescue we got when she was about 6mths old, she just needed some love & care, then I got a baby pup & he is now 1yr old with papers & honestly, one dog is no smarter or better than the other, I'm not into breeding of Boxers but of loving them,as this breed of dog needs, they are very people oriented & crave attention & love. Some people can't cope with this & thats why so many end up in shelters, because the Boxer will do what ever it has to for attention from its owner, whether it be good or bad, you just have to understand them. Sorry if I insulted you, it wasn't meant that way, it just sounded like you had a lot to offer, maybe I was wrong. Hanley

I didn't take it as an insult at all. It's always good to make people aware of the situation. I've always had rescue animals my whole life, except for a couple goats and chickens that we bought from some farmer, then there's that peacock that just flew into our backyard one day that no one around was missing... but then that's kinda a rescue I 'spose.

As a matter of fact, this would be the first animal I would bring into my home that isn't a rescue. I am keeping an eye on the local Boxer rescue, though.

Welcome to Boxer World

You'll love the challenges of raising a puppy...it's fun and rewarding...plus if the "cutie pie" doesn't turn out the way you'd like it to, then you'll be able to kick you own back side for any mistakes…tee hee. I sure hope you find the puppy of your dreams. Puppy breath is wonderful! Anyway, just wanted to welcome you into this wonderful web site; it has helped me with many of my boxer questions plus also loosing my best friend, Magic. Deeg says...
"wOO wOO wOO, RUFF, Woooo Woo Woooo..." Which means "Welcome to you from OREGON!"
