I returned from vacation last week and was told that my girl had to go to the ER vet for an eye ulceration. she was boarded with the rescue woman that I got her from. she was on ointment and drops. Took her to my vet and she re- stained the eye and I saw a C- shaped abrason on the bottom of the iris. She changed the meds to a sodium chloride ointment/ triple antibiotic ones. Plus added Vit B/C to her food. Over the weekend, I took her to the ER vet again because I thought she looked miserable. Was squinting/ not opening eye/lethargic/drainage. They flushed it and said it was still the same. Keep the same treatment going. Anyone had this experience?? I feel so sick. i was told she could lose her eye. She may have to undergo a keratotomy on the eye(scrape the bad cells off the eye):( She looks so sad when she looks at me. I give her a treat everytime I put the meds in. any feedback would be appreciated. I know boxers have a history of heart and cancer disease, but not the eyes too! Thanks.

If the vet clearly sees a "C" shaped abrasion that would mean that she scratched her eye on something.
I haven't had to deal with this in dogs, but I myself had a scratch on my eye and it took 3 months of antibiotic drops every 4 hours to get it all healed up. The drops sting a bit and the eye is very sensitive to light when it is scratched.

:( Sorry to say boxers have problems with eyes too. Corneal dystrophy seems to be a common one Mona had it when she was a youngster.
They actually have one named for them Boxer Ulcer. I always go to an eye specialist for my boxers. I don't mess around with regular vets. One of my boxers had a boxer ulcer and lost that eye because I was having her treated by a regular vet. Because she was adjusting to having one eye she bumped into something and punctured the other eye. I went to a different vet and he recommended I go to a specialist and they saved her eye. I drive an hour to go to them but it's worth it. Mona my other boxer had a compelete eye check up last year from them and our chihuahua who is 11yrs got her first full eye exam then too. she came out with flying colors.

Just wondered if your boxers eye is healed now? We are going on six weeks and our second debrisment(sp). The vet said this time the eye had healed more but there were still problems in the center.
Our white buster is sick of it, cones, eye ointment, and itching, poor dog. He's hanging tough though, he's been more playful the last few days so I know he's feeling better. I'm really grateful we have the money to do the right treatment too. Just wondering if you have been having good luck...

I had to wean down the dex a meth, continue with the NS oint and drops. So........500.00 later, she is doing well. I felt so sorry for her at the end. she was sick of it too.. i always gave her a little treat for her cooperation. She is a good girl. Hope your guy is doing better. I cannot believe how expensive it is.

Thank you very much reen and I'm glad Mandy is better. Our expenses are very close to yours, the only other expense we had was we had a bump removed the first time that was under his skin. We went to the emergency clinic when it first happened too, our total is around $600
When my husband went to get Whitebuster he walked into vets office and heard the, "Sad woo hoo song," loudy and said, "that's my dog,' and the vet receptionist said, "Yes it is," so that kind of describes his ordeal, I hope this is it for us too..
