This sucks. No other way to put it.

Out of 3 boxers..

Girl..10 years Boxer cardiomyopathy

Girls Daughter Amber...14 years old age not her heart.

Ambers daughter Dakota..7 years Boxer cardiomyopathy

This is a condition that is right side heart failure. Its really sudden and not alot can be done about it.

Not alot I can say other than know this is a issue with boxers...and spend every day with them like its their last.

One day she was chasing squirrels and laying in the sun. The next I had to have her put down.

It is estimated that up to 50% of boxers may be affected by this disease. It is variable in how it is expressed and how fast it progresses. Some dogs will go on to develop dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure, others are at risk of cardiac arrest from the arrhythmia. Most commonly it presents in middle to old age, so it is important for regular and continued testing of breeding stock.

My Darwin collapsed once and was diagnosed with ARVC. He has been living with it now for over 18 months with no more collapses that we know of. He is on medication to control the irregular heartbeats and has cardiac check-ups every 6 months. It isn't always an immediate death sentence for the dog.

I lost my beautiful white Roxy girl today. We went for a walk in the park, she collapsed and within just a few minutes she was gone. My heart is broken.

Thats really sad. I had a little time to say goodbye. She wast hurting horribly...she couldent chase the squirrels just watch them.

Medication can work at times or it can simply prolong their suffering. Thats a personal choice. As far as my dog went...there was no point taking this on and extending it. She hated winter. It would have just been selfish to try to keep them. When in the end nature wins.

Some dogs react well to meds to keep them going. Others do not. I wasnt willing to hedge my bet on doing better to find out she died in a cage alone at the vet clinic away from me.

She went to sleep in my hands. Just like she was born into.
