I have this boxer, Apollo, who is 6 1/2 months old that had a raised bump on his head about the size of a quarter and the height of two quarters stacked together. There was only the one bump this morning but after I returned from some errands this afternoon they are all over the top of his head. The others are not as big as the first but I would say there are about 10 all together. He does not scratch at them nor are they any color or leaking. He is on a regular diet of the best kibble which he has been eating for 5 months now so I do not think it is that. I do not want for this situation to get any worse, so is there any food, ointment, or medicine I could give to help until I can get him to the vet tomorrow? Or had this ever happened to anyone else that might have some suggestions on what it might be? Please help. Thank You.

One idea

How weird! In case it is an allergic reaction to something, maybe some liquid benedryl might help. My vet recommended this once when my guy got stung by a yellow jacket and got bumps all over his body. Seems weird though that Apollo's bumps are limited to his head. Hope he is ok!

Thanks for the advice I will try the benadryl, but do you know the proper dosage to give him? He weighs 40 pounds on the dot.

Hmmm

I would buy children's benedryl and usage that suggested dosage. Alas, it is 930pm on the west coast and you are in Florida so I would imagine you took a guess already! Sorry for the delayed response:(

If it doesn't get better, I would have him checked out by the vet..... Keep us updated! :)

Thank you for the help everyone I did take a guess on the amount of benadryl to give him. It just so happens I went with the children recommended dosage. In the morning half the bumps were gone and the others were subsiding. I am so happy this worked out for the better. Now I just have to try and pin-point what caused this so it doesn't happen again. Thanks again everyone for the help.

...if it was localized to one area I would guess an insect bite of some sort.Glad everything is returning to normal. You may want to give your vet a call and get the proper pet dosage for benedryl...I believe its based on weight of the pet.

Benadryl should be given at 1mg per pound. The capsules come in 25mg. So a 50lb dog could safely take 2-25mg capsules every 8 hours (or 3 times in a 24 hour period). Always start out with a lower dose, sometimes it will work. You can always give the additional amount if they don't show any signs of recovery.

Oh good!

So glad Apollo is ok - I agree - it might something like a spider bite or such since the bumps never migrated past his head.
