Boxer Booster
I grew up with boxers.
We got our first Boxer when I was 4 yrs old (Keizer was his name) and I just loved that dog to death. I use to dress him up in my doll clothes, wrap him in blankets and rock him to sleep.
He must have liked it because he never did fuss. It seemed like he was MY dog, I always played with him and he was partial to me even though he was a FAMILY dog. He was pretty maint. free I guess I do recall him getting the MUMPS:eek: but that was about it, well he did get put in doggie jail oncesmashicon he got out and no one was home, then we got the call from the pound.
Anyway......we had him til I was a Junior in High School and he was approx 13 yrs old, he was the greatest dog ever and I was never so upset to come home from school one day and not have my Keizer there, I paniced and called my mom at work to call the pound and she rushed home and had to tell me that they had to put him to sleep as he was not well and because of his age there was nothing they could do. I still have not forgave my parents for that:mad:
But when I got my first house, within 5 weeks of moving in I had my very own baby boxer boy:D and he is the love of my life. Then not too long ago I got another one, and am thinking about adopting a show dog who's career is over and they want to get rid of her.
There are only 2 kinds of dogs I will have and obvisouly one is a BOXER and the other an English bulldog!

Some great stories here, kind of takes you back.

i grew up a poodle and cat - i was shattered when mum had to put the poodle down - she was about 16 or 17 and was in bad shape and the same with the cat. we never got another pet after them. i was about 18.

i brought my first house and was alone alot - a friend who is animal mad said i should get a dog - i was like NO WAY - she used to let her dogs in th ehouse all the time, sleep in her bed - very spoilt - i thought yuk.

anyway 2 years ago i met my husband he introduced me to the family and their dog ruby you guessed it a boxer - well she came to say hello i was hesitant - in my time without a dog i had developed a nerviousness about them so i very unsure of ruby hehehe i soon changed. i fell in love with her.

a year later we were engaged, brought a house and then married after the honeymoon hubby wanted a dog - of course he only having had boxers insisted on a boxer - i was like fine but you have to look after it, feed it pick up the poos and so on. its not aloud in the house on the furniture or our bed. she can sleep in the family room or laundry at night. i remember him just smiling at that.

well i found a breeder we went and met them, met the parents of the litter and then met a brindle boy and a red girl - hubby said always wanted a girl. i loved the boy but got the girl for hubby we really nearly got both.

well all my not alouds went straight out the window, she has beds all around the house plus she sleeps on the lounge next to me and of course in bed with me  she has been so so spoilt its not funny but i am totally in love with her and desparately want another  and when we can afford it we will:p its funny because she was to be my hubby's dog but it turns out she's mine

anyway thats how i got my boxer - i will never own another breed of dogs - boxers only.cool2icon

I had different dogs and cats while I was growing up, but never really realized how much I love dogs until I was in my 20's. I had a Basset Hound and a Dalmatian when I was in my 20's. Now I have a Vizsla and a Lab/ Dane mix ( I will always love Vizslas and Labs) and of course my boxer Tess. Funny thing is, I had never really liked boxers, but my then husband loved the breed. After I got my Lab mix, I started volunteering at the shelter where I got her and we had several boxers come in to the shelter. I started paying attention, because I thought maybe my then hubby would be interested in getting another dog, which he never was. But I started to realize what a wonderful breed they were. After we got divorced, my friend, the kennel manager at the shelter told me about the three boxers she had rescued off the streets, a mom and 2 pups. I came out just to take a look, and that was it! I decided after the divorce I needed some happiness in my life and that is what Tess is, pure happiness. She was the best thing I ever did for myself and I always will want a boxer in my life.

Completely Boxer Crazy
My first boxer experience was with a roommates boxer. Her name was Bretta and she was an absolute doll. She used to always walk around on the roof of the house, she used an old sundeck for access, and all the neighbors would call and say "hey, did you know your dogs on your roof?" Well, one day we had a downpour and we figured out what Bretta had been doing up there...digging!! There were more leaks than we could count and we laughed til we cried over it. Poor Bretta was grounded after that and me and my roommate tore up the steps so she couldn't get back up there. Thinking of that sweet face of Bretta's staring down at me from the roof when I came home still makes me smile.

Then I met Damon. He had owned a boxer prior to our meeting, and he always wanted another one. When we met, I already had a cat and a small Japanese Chin mix (Tiger) and Damon and I were together 11 years before Tiger died. Shortly after Tiger died, we adopted two kittens and moved into a house. My husbands kitty Stormy died very young of congenital heart defects and left him completely heartbroken. THEN he lost his job to a layoff and was having a hard time finding work. After about six months, my best friend told me of an aquaintance that's boxer had just had a litter of pups. Being ignorant of BYB's we went and got Damon a puppy. Hammer was the only pup that was desperately seeking shade in the hot June sun, and I knew we were two of a kind, so I scooped him up and took him home. When we got to the house we placed Hammer in a grocery sack and called Damon out to help with groceries. He fell for it hook, line and sinker even though I had never called him to help with groceries in the past 11 years! Kelly handed him the bag and inside was a very sleep little boxer baby wondering what he was doing in a brown paper sack. Damon cried. It was the best decision I ever made.

5 months after getting Hammer we decided he needed a friend and adopted Ginger through NCBR. 2nd best decision I ever made.

3 months after that I started volunteering for NCBR and successfully fostered 3 boxer babies. I say successfully, because the 4th foster has never left my home. Booker is our latest addition to our boxer family!!

So in a little over one years time, I went from no boxers, to three, and I couldn't be happier!!!
