Boxer Pal
Hi everyone, I'm attempting to help an acquaintance of my wife. Here's the story she's now living alone as her two kids moved in with their dad so this woman is home bith Boxer. She claims that she has no time for the dog so it's out in the back yard all day and missing the kids. I'll leave you her name & numbers in case any of you in Sacto, Cal area are interested or know of someone. Oh yea, she tried the rescue and they wanted money up front before they took the dog.(She's broke??) Anyway her name is Dodie, phone # is edited by moderator I would take him but already have 3 dogs and a cat. Sounds like she's almost ready to take it to the animal shelter, hate to see a boxer end up like that. :( :(

I am not sure what she else she can do other than turning him into www.ncbr.org which is one of the local rescue organizations here. I know there is a surrender charge as you stated but that is only to help with the costs associated in fostering the dog, medical care it may need, etc. I know that we got Bailey from the Placer County shelter where her owners turned her in. Even if she does go to a shelter there is always a possibility that the rescue organization can take her from there.

FYI- It is NOT recommended to post phone numbers on the boards and will most likely be taken out of your post. Good luck!

It is against BW rules to post personal information. People can PM you if they need the numbers. Please read the full set of rules located here:

www.boxerworld.com/rules/

Rescue would be the best place to go even if they do require some money. It would be much better for the boxer than being put in a shelter.

Good for you for being a concerned friend. This poor baby would do much better with a Boxer rescue than the animal control. The Boxer rescue needs to cover its expenses somehow - even though the rescue people volunteer their time and homes with no compensation, they do have to somehow pay for food and vet care for the rescued dogs. I'm sure the surrender fee is nowhere near sufficient to cover whatever costs there may be. If you could somehow find it in you to help her with this fee if she can't pay it herself, you could rest easier about the fate of her poor Boxer. Hope it works out okay for this baby.
BTW, interested people can still use the PM function to contact you and get this woman's info (which can't be posted because of the BW rules) if they have any questions.

Maybe some of her friends could pitch in and help pay the surrender fee. I work with my local shelter pulling boxers for rescue, and unfortunately they cannot screen applicants and turn them down like we do so they don't always go to boxer knowledgeable homes or forever homes. They often complain to me about the number of dogs returned. I really think it is in the boxers's best interest to get he/she into ncbr.

I was notified of this thread by another BW member who has generously offered to pay the Owner Surrender fee if neccessary. I work with NorCal Boxer Rescue, and will try to reach you to discuss this with you more. Hopefully she hasn't already taken the dog to a shelter.
