I found the following boxer male in petfinder.org. He is in a kill shelter in Stark County Dog Pound in OHIO. I called them to enquire about him and was told he is @3-4 years old, very skinny, fawn and white, and does not appear to be aggressive. A friend of mine called to get further information (she was considering driving to OHIO to adopt him) and spoke to someone that basically could give a rat's bottom whether this dog is adopted or not.

I do know that his time is very limited. Can someone PLEASE rescue this poor baby before his time is up? I have listed the link below.

Thanks

If someone can pick him up, I'll come get him over the weekend...I live in CT. Does anyone know if he gets along with other dogs, because I'll have to bring my shepherd with him.

There is no way I can get there by ths weekend even or I would take him in a heart beat. He needs someone to love him so bad.

I just called the Ohio shelter (Wednesday) and they put the dog down. They said it was sick, with blood in its stool. :( I was making plans to go out and get it.

That makes me angry  Blood in the stool is a sign of colitis which some dogs get when stressed. As if life in the shelter isn't stressful.

First of all I would like to thank everyone that tried to save this poor baby. When I spoke to the pound I begged them not to put him to sleep yet, that I was desperately trying to find someone (all of you wonderful BW family) to "spring" him out. The lady that I spoke to said they would give him some time. She never mentioned that he had blood in his stools. When my friend called to enquire, she spoke to some guy that could have cared less whether he was adopted or not. It makes me wonder whether he had problems or not?! Either way, we were too late. I am sitting here bawling over a furbaby that I never met but feel he deserved a chance to be loved. I wonder if anyone even stroked his head until the end?

I know we can't win every battle, put dang it, I hurt so bad for him.

Thank you all for listening and for caring enough to try.

I'm with you Bonnie. I check these forums every day and sit on pins and needles when these things happen. If it's in California, I do what I can, but when it's out of state, I feel so helpless. I was devastated when I saw they put this little guy down. I'm going home tonight and won't let my babies out of my sight!

Don't I just hate to be the devils advocate ;)

Rescues and shelters often times do not have good working relationships. Shelters are state operated facilities in which dogs are euthanized on a space available basis(and of course based on medical conditions and temperment). One of the biggest attitudes that rescues get from shelters is the fact that they CHOOSE which dogs to take. Shelters get frustrated because they don't have the luxury of choosing which dogs to take, they are required by law to take them all. Rescues are never faced with having to put down a highly adoptable dog just because they ran out of room, unfortunantly shelters are doing this on a daily basis because they have to. The first time you turn down a dog from a shelter is the last time they will probably bend over backwards for you. This is not always true, but for the most part it is hard to establish working relationships. Often times dogs *used* to be held for rescues that would take their time getting there to get the dog since it's been placed on hold. This only in turn means that other dogs that would have had another day or two (which makes a huge difference in the shelter) have had to be euthanized due to the lack of space available. I can understand the shelter workers being upset over this, as it isn't us euthanizing those other dogs, it's them. Every animal brought into this world deserves a chance at atleast a decent life. They never asked to be here and they can't help themselves now that they are. Spay and neuter your pets and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do the same. Do I think all shelters are wonderful, of course not, and do I think some probably don't care, of course I do. This isn't a perfect world, however, the shelters have the bad end of the bargain if you ask me and I always try to be understanding of their position! Does it make me mad they would euthanize a dog that had bloody stools, yes it makes me angry but again, I wonder if we would have felt any better if they just would of said, I'm sorry but his time was up! :(

Oh this makes me so sad

I would have taken this boy untill i could have found him a good home. I live in Ohio and it wouldnt have bothered me to go get him. But i just seen this message and it makes me feel so bad that i dont check these boards more often. I feel so sorry for him. Wish i would have seen this post sooner maybe there would have been something i could have done to help.
