Hi,

I need some advice on the compatability of the above dogs. There is currently a staffy in the rescue centre near where I live and I've took an instant liking to him. I usually go to look for Boxers, so I was shocked when I liked him!

I'm thinking of rescuing him, I'm going to sort out the forms on Friday but obviosuly he'll need to meet Bailey before anything is decided.

Thanks for your help

Hard to know. I guess the best way really to find out would be to take the pair off to a neutral place and see how they get along.

Henri's played with quite a few staffies in his time. They're not his favourite playmate though - as a broad generalisation, they're a bit too pushy and insistent for his apparent liking. Putting that in context, there are other breeds that he's not interested in playing with at all (so he still likes staffies). But they're not at the top of his favourites list either. LOL - that's just my dog, of course. Yours may well have entirely different preferences, and then there's the individual aspect to consider also. Soo - best way to find out is probably to introduce them, and see how they get along.

I agree with GMac, but just want to add that two of Biff's best pals are staffies :)

However, there is one other wee staffie that hates Biff :(

Good luck!

Brinks' best pals are pits. For some reason he LOVES them. When we are at the dog park, he always finds one and doesn't care how hard they play.

Yup, I agree, you'd definitely have to have them meet to see how they get along and exactly what the staffie's personality is. I've met some that were extremely pushy, and others that are just big teddy bears and very laid back. So it's hard to say. Kashmir's had quite a few pit friends when she was a pup... nowadays by all means she prefers her brother and her 2 best friends (rottie and lab) but in general she doesn't mind them.

Good luck! Hope it works out!

Staffies are different to pits by the way. Pits are banned in the UK.

I'm going to see him on Friday, then will slowly introduce Bailey and keep my fingers crossed they get on ok!

If they do, I then have the dilemma of picking a name!!!

Oh I love the Staffies! And yes you are correct - Staffies are not the same as the Pit Bull. I hope it works out for you and Bailey.

Indeed, they're not pit bulls. They aren't the same as American Staffordshire Terriers either (though they are a relative/ancestor of the American dog). One of the most obvious differences being that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is very much smaller - being 14-16" tall and about 30lb or so in weight. Or at least, that's what it's supposed to be. Here's some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staffordshire_Bull_Terrier

Thanks for the info.

He does look alot like that! He's white with brindle patches, 18 months old, but very wide - and it's not fat either.

Most staffies in the rescue place look very different, alot taller and skinnier, but the one I'm looking at is much shorter and musclier.

My three love playing with my friends Staffi puppy, not altogether though it would be a bit overwhelming for the poor girl
There are quite a few around here of varying heights & builds, two are beautiful black & white ones they look gorgeous.

Funny that you say about them being a bit pushy & relentless gmac as my friends is, even Casper has enough most of the time but she just keeps on & on till it annoys him (she's roughly the same age as Casper)
