Peggy...
To cull means "to pick out or separate from the others." In this instance it usually means that the whites are removed from the litter and destroyed. Unfortunately this happens. Some breeders believe in doing this. Sad, but true. I'm not sure of their reasoning though.

I have both breeds

Mikki,
I have a English Bulldog and three boxers(I just got a new one this weekend). They get along very well. We had the bulldog first and then we got the boxers. All of our dogs were under 11 weeks when we brought them home and our bulldog did fine. It was funny, with this last one she sniffed him and was kindof like, oh great, another puppy. My bulldog seems to do better around younger dogs. She tends to be apprehensive around older dogs. Good luck with your search, let us know.

Just my 2 cents worth

Each dog is different and everyones experience is going to be different. You need to base your decision on how your dog does around other dogs. Take your pup on an outing and see if he reacts better to older dogs, younger dogs, males or females. This will be the true test. I foster for rescue and find that 9 times out of 10 I am able to acclamate the dogs to my household. Every once in awhile there will be one that just doesn't work. Acclamating them takes work, time and patience on your part. When choosing a playmate for Lexi, we took her to meet Baxter in his environment (rescue)because she is very dominant and introduced them that way. It was a big success. One difference I would like to point out. A puppy will come to you with a personality you can't change. A rescue is temperment tested and you will be able to find one that suits your needs ;)

As far as the whites, I have no experience. I can tell you though that my male who is a fawn has melanoma. So far we have been able to keep it under control. We check both our kids weekly with a fine tooth comb to look for abnormalities. Call me paranoid but this has worked to our advantage several times now. When caught early, any cancer diagnosis is better. We lather our babies in sunscreen when we are outside for longer periods of time (not just to go potty) and both of ours are fawn. Just a word of caution that this doesn't just happen with whites.

Spaying and Neutering - a subject very near and dear to my heart. I am actively involved in animal rescue and believe all dogs should be spayed or neutered unless you plan on showing the dog or breeding the dog. It is healthier for the dog in the long run and it does not make them lazy or fat. Lack of exercise makes them lazy and fat ;) If you do not plan on breeding or showing, please really consider the benefits of neutering your dog.

Best of luck in your decision and I hope you find a wonderful addition to your family :D

As of right now we want to wait and see how Jeeves develops before we make a firm decision on breeding him. He comes from a great line of health bulldogs that are very lovely. He is a real looker. (I am planning on getting pictures on a sight so I will let everyone know when I do) He is completely healty at this time and so are the lines he comes from. We will wait to see how he matures before we decide on breeding or neutering. Their look and head can change for a few years. We have alot of imformation to gather yet to be informed enough to breed. The breeder we got him from has been breeding for years and is willing to be a great source of support and information as she seems to think he would be a great stud.

Thanks for all of your opinions and suggestions. As a new dog owner (Jeeves is my first) I find it great to talk to you all.

We will definately involve Jeeves in our decision on which dog to add. I am leaning more toward an adult at this time becasue of the potty training issue. I know Jeeves seems to do well with older dogs as he was the 2nd to youngest at the breeders. We didn't get him until he was 4 1/2 mos old. He does seem to do better around females so we may have our answer as to which type adult would be best. Thanks again.
