It's only a matter of time before other people catch on about how great these animals truly are. We all KNOW.. now we have to wait for the rest of the world to follow!!! appicon

I consider that really bad news. It will just encourage puppy mills and back yard breeders to produce boxer pups with no consideration to their long term health or to meeting the breed standards. :(

Grrr! Never thought of it like that! And now that I think about it, I have seen a lot more boxer puppies in the pet store and all of them have been sickly and below standard!

I just seen this on yahoo also. It's great that people realize how great boxers are, but again it is also sad to that puppies are going to be bread in mills to go to pet stores and suffer. :(

What she said, plus there will be overflows at the boxer rescues and shelters when people who just "have to have" a boxer see something shiny and decide to ditch the dog in favor of it. My girl Ally is from a backyard breeder, breeding a white no less :o, and while I love her dearly and did want to give her a good home, I wish I hadn't had to encourage that sort of behavior in order to do so. By the time I realized the situation she was in, the damage had already been done, and then I felt my best option was to just try and improve her life. When I decided to get another boxer, the first several options that came my way were of the puppy mill variety, and I skipped them all without a second thought. Minka is the product of two Am.CH's owned by a reputable breeder, and I feel much better about encouraging *that* sort of behavior. Anyhow, if you want to know how this sort of of notoriety turns out, just ask the Dalmation enthusiasts. :(

ugh!

as a person who volunteers with Boxer Rescue.....
i'm disappointed to hear that the Boxer is #6 on the list.
it only means that we will see more dogs coming into resuce. which means we need to find even more good homes out there. which sometimes isn't always easy.
and, puppy mills will latch onto the news and breed even more!
UGH.
it's a double edged sword..........
we all love our Boxers more than anything. and are proud of them.
but on the flip side........when too many people think they are great......greed kicks in for some people and all they see are dollar signs.

I have to agree with Jan, with Boxers getting more press as a great dog we will probably start to see more boxers in rescues and left on the side of the road from owners who only wanted a boxer because of how cute they are and did not research about if a boxer would be a good fit in their household. I hope that doesn't happen but I'm a realist.
