Hello!!!

You are all probably going to laugh at me, for asking such a dumb question .... but I am a big girl so I am just gonna ask!!! .....

I buy my dogs some "lovely" soup bones, that still have some meat on them, they love to chew on them for hours on end... but I have also noticed recently that they will burry the bones in mud, obviously they have finshed chewing on them and are saving it for later!!! ..

So ... a few days later .. or maybe even up to a week later they dig out the bone... and start chewing again...... Here's the dumb question part....

This can not be healthy for them??? I mean the meat has been in mud, and been festering ... why do they do this.... when they come to mommy for a bit of loving and their slobbery kisses ... their breath absolutely stinks, and makes me want to gag!!!!! I am worried what this does to their stomachs??? ..

Should I be trying to stop this ??? or am I just being an overprotective boxer mommy???

Now that is a very good question.

I have only 1 that will bury her bone. I just took it that she wasn`t hungry at the time and was saving it for later. Of course she could have also been hiding it from the other 7. She has done this for the past 4 years and it hasn`t hurt her yet so I suppose that their stomachs are somewhat immune to nastyness or either the ground preseveres it. Not really sure what the answer to this is but it must evidently go back to the wild dog days. Like I said, my girl that buries them has never gotten sick from a aged bone. I just don`t let her give me sugars until I know the after taste is gone.
