My Bo is trying to get caged trained and it's not working. Sometimes he's really good in it at night. I have to make sure he's really tired or he will keep me up ALL NIGHT. Unless he is really tired he makes the worst sounds I've ever heard in my life. I've caged trained 2 other dogs and nothing compares to Bo. It honestly sounds like a person is dying. I've tried everything that I know how to do. I've tried ignoring him, beating him (not too bad though), taking him outside then putting him back in after he used the bathroom and nothing seems to work. It is an awful sound and I can't take it because he's keeping me up all night long and it sounds like it's punishment for him. I've tried to put him in there while I'm home so he doesn't think it's punishment and it's worse when I'm home and awake. I'm going to try and record some audio and let you hear how bad it is. If anyone has ANY type of advice or anything I would very much appreciate it. I've read countless stuff on cage training and talked to my vet but nothing seems to help. If you've got any idea or suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Travis and Bo

Hello Travis, and Bo :) It's hard to help you without more information.

How did you start the crate training exercises?
How many times a day are you practicing?
How long would he be in the crate over a 24 hour period?
What is your routine with him?
Where in your house is the crate located?
What type of crate is it?
Are you giving Bo an interactive toy to keep him occupied when in the crate (Kongs for example)?
Do you have a SnugglePuppy toy or similar for him at night?
Have you varied you crate training exercises or routine a few times?

BTW, beating him, even if "not too bad though" is not going to help in anyway whatsoever - especially if he is stressed, it's only going to make him worse. We need to be smarter than they are, not tougher.

Do you still have your other dogs?

There is lots of info here on crate training, you can do a search of the forums when you get time, you may be able to find some hints that apply to your situation - to search you can go to:

The puppy pages here at Boxerworld might also help:

Bo looks like a very handsome young man :) My first Boxer was also named Bo, and we shared is life for 14 wonderful years - I'm sure your Bo will bring you as much joy and love as ours did.
