pepper spray

We have a serial killer in the Ba ton Rouge area for sometime now and everyone is carrying pepper spray. This may help enough to be able to at least keep her from being attacked again. I am not an advocate of hurting other animals, but this may stun the dog a little while. Have you contacted the police about a vicious dog in your area that seems to not stay restrained.
Good luck on dealing with the owner. How is baby Blue doing?

So sorry to hear of your hurt baby...last week, our town Animal Control officer bannished a pit bull from our neighborhood. It can never live or even pass thru Blackstone again. It had bitten a little 5 yr old girl in the face and was completely out of control all the time..(owners are clueless and irresponsible). The banishment could only take place after repeated complaints from people in the neighborhood (dog off lease or unattended in its yard, etc). Get people in your neighborhood to call everytime this dog is acting threatening... I'm sure this dog will be better off living with a responsible owner, that's what every puppy deserves. Best of luck! Otto kisses for your baby!lovicon

I'm so sorry to hear about you baby Blue!!! She is just adorable from her pictures that you posted. It must have been terrible to see her go through all of that!!!

I would definately be carrying the pepper spray with you. That way it's not as noticeable as a big stick and you can protect yourself as well. I would think it would have immediate results as where I've heard the stick might cause more aggression on the part of the attacking dog!!!

Also - do a search on here for resocializing Blue for future. She had a terrible attack and this will stick with her for your future walks. Just as you will never be totally at ease on your walks, neither will she!!! Good luck and keep us updated on her condition.

As for keeping a boxer down while recouperating - all I can say is good luck!! Keep the leash on at all times!!!

Oh no! I'm so sorry about your baby Blue! :(

This is something that is very near and dear to my heart, as my little brindle baby Emma was attacked and killed last year. She was only 3 1/2 months old when she died. The first attack didn't kill her, but she had puncture wounds on her head, and it was pretty bad - sounds like your baby.

We should have demanded that the dog be put down immediately, but we didn't. Unfortunately, that same dog attacked her again 2 weeks later and killed her. Everyone kept telling me that if a dog does it once, he'll do it again. I wish I would have listened. I'd give anything to have my Emma back.

I think you should do everything in your power to make sure that dog never does this again. Sue the owner, get pepper spray, call a local news station, call the paper, put up "Viscious Dog" signs in your neighborhood. You and Blue should not have to live in fear!!!

Good luck, and please give your baby tons and tons of get well soon kisses from me!

Thanks Katy for sending me a link to this.

I am VERY sorry to hear about Blue, I work with the MD boxer rescue so we see and get some cases of where dogs have been attacked and we also hear of stories.

For a long time i was going to a local dog park, however because owners were irresponsible and not watching their dogs it got to be too much for me, the last incident that "broke the straw on the camels back" was when Bailey got attacked by a Pit Bull. The lady had just gotten it from the SPCA and IMMEDIATELY took it to the dog park, she had no idea of the temperment or anything.

While the fight was going on it was me and another friend that was trying to break it up, Bailey was getting THOROUGHLY beaten by this dog, if it wasnt for Subi i would hate to imagine how it would have ended, Subi started attacking the Pit and in a way helped me to break up the fight.

Anyways, I debated about reporting the incident, but i didnt, i later found out that the same owner took the dog BACK to the dog park and it attacked ANOTHER dog, this time it was BAD!!! i mean the other dog almost died, the owner did get rid of the pit bull.

the point is, if i had reported the incident the 1st time, maybe something more could have been done. I am glad that you reported it to Animal Control but i would also file a police report.

re: pepper spray, be careful what kind you get, some are illegal in DC. i would carry a stick from now on though!

Good luck and if you need any other help feel free to ask!

hugs to Blue from Subi and Bailey

Pepper Spray

Do not get the police issue pepper spray. The kind I have is effective and not as powerful and is legal.

I feel your pain. My boxer, Lucky was attacked by a Bull Mastiff. Like your puppy, Lucky had to have a couple of surgeries to repair the fractured rear leg(caused by the bite). Hang in there. In a couple of months, you won't even be able to tell she as hurt. ;)
