Unfortunately Blue was attacked by a pit bull this weekend that escaped its yard!!! :( She had some pretty serious surgeory and still has a drain hanging out of her chest.

Although she is still in pain, her great character and disposition haven't been affected. She's so great! We spent all weekend w/ my parents and my brother, she loved the attention. :)

I have a feeling the guy won't re-pay me for the surgery. But for now I'm concentrating on Blue's recovery. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you.

I will keep everyone posted about her recovery.

p.s. any advice on how to make these next few weeks go over well for Blue, she can only go walking on the least for the next 2 weeks?? And also how to deal with the owner??

Sorry about Blue, sending Boxer slurps his way...

As for the owner, make sure there is a report of the incident with Animal Control, and if he gives you a hard time, threaten litigation.. Make sure you teach this guy a lesson on responsable ownership, which includes keeping your dog under your control at all times..smashicon

I am so sorry to hear about Blue! I am sure with your love and hugs she will be back to her self soon!lovicon I just had this convo this Saturday with a Pit owner! Reggie, Niko's friend is one of the sweetest, gentlest Pits I have ever met, and dogs like that give them awful names! Reggie let Nek jump, bite and whatever else all over him and loved it!
I agree with the others, you should def. call Animal Control and I think your local chapter of the SPCA. There is def something going on with this dog and his owner if this dog is attacking. I know dogs get out of thier yards, but it's different when it attacks a dog in her own yard, that's just B.S to me!
Niko sends lots of slobbers and hugs to Miss Blue, and hopes she gets better soon so she can join him at the MD Boxer bash,(whenever we set a date!) lovicon lovicon cool2icon

I wrote an answer

I replied also in the other post: Hi from the new guy. I agree with all of the above statements. However I would get a police report in the event you do have to go to court. If the dog's owner is issued a sitation or even a reprimand maybe he will be a little more responsible.

Hugs Kisses wiggles and prayers are all on the way.

An update

Blue and I were on an early afternoon walk when the incident occurred. The dog was in its yard, saw us on the street and then darted to the back of its yard to escape, ran up an alley and met us at the corner and attacked.

I don't see what about our body language or whatever would cause something like this. I just keep running the incident over and over in my head to see what I could have done differently :( It kills me inside that she had to go through this, she is such a sweet and submissive girl. She doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body...she lives to play w/ other dogs and she's so trusting.

So far I've reported him to Animal Control, but all they do is check for rabies and give a warning. A mere slap on the wrist.

Its too late to get before pics, but I will take after pics. Thanks for the advice.

I will hand the owner the bill tomorrow and hopefully he is more responsive than he was at the time of the incident. Wish me luck!

**What can I do to prevent something like this in the future?? I've been told to carry a walking stick everytime I walk Blue....but Blue and I just want to have a good time and live a normal life. Do any of you carry sticks and such when you walk??**

I'm really sorry to hear what happened to your baby. Great name I might add it was one of the "Few" names I’ve been thinking about for my baby she should be coming here in 2 Sundays from this past one. So I'm really excited it’s my first boxer, and probably wont be my last. Let me get back to the subject though sorry for the rambling. I have had many dogs over the years and have never had one of them attacked nor attempted. I personally don't carry sticks or anything to prevent a mishap. I simply carry a drink or two and the leash, I hope all turns out keep us posted on the outcome of the other dogs "owner".

I have in the past carried a stick while walking my dog. A collie used to run out, run across the street to get to us. I never had to bop it on the head, but I was ready to. He scared me!

I am so sorry you and Blue had to go thru this. Sending you ((((((((healing vibes)))))))))

Before Krose, I had a lab mix and we were playing with a stick on the street and all of a sudden I saw a rottie running our way. Boy, was I scared!!! I mean I was scared for myself too!!! That rottie and my aussie got into each other and all I could do was to get as close as I can to them and hit the stick to the ground really hard a couple of times. The rottie went running away. Luckily, nothing happened to my girl but I was so scared, you can imagine.
I don't carry sticks with me but sometimes I wonder too because there are lots of pitbulls where I live and I believe they make those dogs fight each other. If anything like that happened, I wouldn't know what to do but to yell as loud as I can I guess.
Keep us updated!!
