Do you all have an opinion on this brand? I have looked at the rating and it is 4 stars. The reason I ask is that I can get it easily at PetSmart locally. I have checked around with the mom and pop stores and can't find any of the 5 or 6 star foods. I have looked around the forum trying to see if anybody has talked about Blue Buffalo but I just see it mentioned a couple of times.

Anything getting a 4 star rating or higher on the DFA site is really a premium food.

Blue buffalo is pretty good. It gets far more positive than negative reports. It rates "only" four stars because of the apparent meat content of the food (I say apparent meaning what can be confidently discerned from the ingredient list - like most manufacturers, BB does not disclose exact percentages of ingredients). However, it is still pretty good - and it contains nothing nasty or that is best avoided.

If the meat content concerns you, there's nothing to stop you feeding your dog a little extra meat now and again ;)

I was a product specialist for Blue Buffalo. It is a good food but gave all my pets diarrhea. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. My mastiff has gone through 4 30lb bags and it has just gotten worst. My little boxer has had it also, I wrote to com. to ask them about it. They told me to start over with the transition of their food. That would be the food they were on in May which was Royal Canin. My mastiff had no problem with the food but I switched because their lg. breed had too much protein in it. I quit working for Blue Buffalo because I did not feel right about promoting a food that makes ALL of my pets sick. There is link that you can go to to find out some things they are doing wrong in their food. Not sure what it is but if you type in Blue Buffalo it should be under it somewhere. I really hope this helps.

I’m not feeding blue right now and I’m not sure what the poster above means by “what they are doing wrong with their food” but I have fed it in the past and had no problems. I used both the Lamb formula and the fish formula and everything was fine. It’s a really good food especially compared to the royal canin mentioned above (and compared to everything else sold at petsmart).

I was not saying that the food is bad just check these web sites before you decide to switch. For your pets health. I don't want to see anyone go through what I have been going through since May/June.

I’m sorry your animals did not do well on Blue Buffalo. Any dog can have an adverse reaction to any food for multiple of reasons. It really depends on the animal and it doesn’t necessarily say anything about the quality of the food. Like I wrote I personally did not have any problems with Blue. The reason I switched is because it’s good to rotate foods for variety as well as to avoid the development of allergies.

One of your links did not work but I was able to figure it out and the supposed review of Blue Buffalo was written by a competing dog food company who (among other things) claims blue has stolen all their techniques and ideas! What’s worse is that company’s dry food is rated as a two star food (meaning not good) whereas blue is rated as a 4 star food.

Here are the reviews of each food done by an independent review panel NOT affiliated with either company.

Blue’s review;

Wysong’s review;

The author on the Wysong site is critical of several other dog food companies besides Blue Buffalo including Natures Variety, Solid Gold, Wellness and Innova and as far as I know all these foods are VERY high quality foods… I’m not sure where he gets his info/ ideas??? But it sounds like he likes to promote his food by bashing others

Here is the correct link you tried to post above about half way down the page you'll see the blue buffalo & other foods he critiques

Thanks for the info. I spoke to my vet about it and he said if it was just one pet with diarrhea then he would have me try alittle longer, but since all were having it he said that some dogs just can't tolerate certain food. I started switching them on Sun. and have already noticed that the poop is firming up. She went to vet toda(my mastiff) and she is about 20lbs under weight. He said that could be due to the fact she has had diarrhea for past couple of months. I am just glad to see her feeling better.
From what I have read it is a good food just did not do well with my dogs.
Thank you for the info.:)

I've been feeding it per vet recommendation to boost Mooses immune system due to a case of demodex, and have had great results. (I was previously feeding Eukanuba, naughty I know!) Poop is fine, and his coat is getting thicker and shinier, and the bald patches are going away. He also really loves it!

I just started my 7yr old on this (I was naughty too and was feeding not so good food ---unawares). Max is having weight issues (down to 65lbs) and I really needed to figure out how to get it back on him. I saw quite a few posts about this food, and it is local for me to get also. I started him a week ago (mixing with his old food - he can't tolerate change) and I am already seeing an improvement.

Max also has flank alopecia, so I am hoping this food also improves his skin/coat.
