Our local PetSmart carries Blue Buffalo. After searching everywhere else local, no one around us carries Wellness or Canidae, or they carry very small bags for outrageous prices. We were considering Blue Buffalo from PetSmart, and saw that it was on the list of good dog foods. Our breeder currently has our puppy on Eukanuba, so we want to gradually change her food once we bring her home to something of better quality. Is Blue Buffalo from PetSmart a good food (I read that food shouldnt be bought from PetSmart, but then I read that BB was a good food)?? Does anyone else use it and how is your puppy handling it? Thanks so much for your replys and information.

Buy it :)

LOL - it looks pretty good to me :) As usual, I prefer the adult formula to the puppy one. At 26% protein, the puppy food isn't excessively high, but it does seem a bit overdone with respect to fat (15%). The adult formula is almost identical, except the protein is at 24% and the fat 14%. That's a bit closer to ideal for both pups and adults ;)

What else to say? The first two ingredients are both meat sources, the grains are whole (and not the cheap nasty ones like corn and wheat) and there is a good amount of fruit and vegetables in the food. No carcinogenic preservatives either. Yep, looks like a pretty good dry dog food to me :)

Thanks

Thanks so much for the info. I was contiplating buying it, but knowing it is on the 'Good Food Journal' and is OK by the people on here, I feel better with buying it. Wellness would have been my 1st choice and Canidae my 2nd, but I cant find them around here at all, and ordering online is very expensive with shipping, so I thought BB would be the next best option, it is still high in price, but our baby deserves one of the best. If Wellness happens to come around here anytime soon or in the future, I will definetly consider switching to that, but we will see how she adjusts to the BB after we start gradually switching from Eukanuba.

Again Thanks!!

Defineately go with the Blue Buffalo. I purchased it from PetSmart for the same reason. I couldn't find Wellness or Canidae in our area either.
My female fawn had dry, coarse hair that I thought was the way it was supposed to be (she is our first short haired dog). After just one week on Blue Buffalo her hair was shiny and soft. A noticable improvement in a very short time. I was feeding 6 cups of Pro Plan a day before I saw the
Whole Dog Journal list on Boxerworld. Chloe now eats barely four cups
a day of the Blue Buffalo because it is a higher quality food.
She is on her third bag and lookin' good! PS She hardly ever has gas.

We used the Blue Buffalo also after I took Logan off of Iams. His diarhea was gone in 12 hours and he quit itching from the Iams in two days. Now he did quit eating the blue buffalo, but I think that was just a case of "I am going to be a picky eater" now. So I switched to Chicken soup which I found at my feedstore. But it was definetly the best Petsmart had.

I don't think anyone has ever said you shouldn't buy food from Petsmart (as in some sort of moral reasoning). But what has been said is that Petsmart does not traditionally carry premium foods, they stock primarily (or only) the lower end foods like Iams and Eukanuba - so if you want to buy a good quality dry dog food you need to look elsewhere.

Obviously, some petsmarts are now stocking at least one premium food (the Bluebuffalo). But it's still only one brand, and if that one doesn't happen to suit your dog or you prefer to buy something like Canidae, Innova, Chicken Soup, Wellness or any one of a couple of dozen others, then you still need to look for an alternative distributor because you probably won't get it through that particular chain.

We switched our very picky eater to Blue Buffalo a couple days ago. We've used Wellness, Chicken Soup, & Nutro Ultra just to name a few. She loves the Blue Buffalo chicken flavor with hot water added to make gravy. I've never seen her eat the entire contents of her bowl in one setting, but she gobbled up the Blue Buffalo !!! I think we have finally found a winner =)

Changed food choice

When I went to Petsmart they had no Blue Buffalo for our pups, all they had was senior formula. We compared all the foods that they had and Authority Baked had some great main ingredients (first 5), no corn so we bought that. They seem to like it, they do eat, but they arent gobbling thier food down. Our female seems to have lost a little weight, but Im not sure, the male pushes her out of the way to eat, even though there are two bowls, they eat from the same. I did crush it a bit and added water and they ate it good, but I also try given them soft canned food to add a little weight too. Our breeder sent us home with a goody bag full of toys, treats, and info on them. They loved the treats.

We shall see how the Authority Baked works out, if we switch, we will not do it anytime soon, but Id like to find the BB in puppy or adult formula, instead of senior.
