bloody diarrhea and antidiarrhea meds

Odin got into some trash and ate it while we were at my parents yesterday. Threw up almost immediately but this morning he started having very runny diarrhea. That didn't suprise me but the blood in it did. Could the bloody diarrhea be from eating something he shouldn't have or should I be concerned it's something else?

Also I plan on doing what I usually do for diarrhea by putting him on a bland diet after resting his stomach for a day but is there a medication I can give him to clear up the diarrhea quickly? I thought my vet put one of my dogs on an anti-diarrheal medication once that was actually for humans but I don't remember which one or how much of it to give. My vet's closed for the weekend so I can't ask them!

Poor baby...sometimes when they have diarrhea over and over it can irritate the lining of the bowel, which can cause bleeding. What there a lot of blood or just here and there? If there's a lot, I would call an emergency vet b/c maybe he got into something like cooked bones. If it's only a little bit, it might just be due to irritation. If it doesn't stop, I would definitely call an emergency vet. Make sure he has lots of water so he doesn't get dehydrated. I'm not sure about anti-diarrheal medicines...I'm sorry.

Riley had a bout of diarrhea a few weeks ago and the vet said that I could give her pepto bismol if I wanted to. I had the pill form of pepto at home which I would greatly recommend over the liquid pink version!!
