I wanted to get some advice...about a week ago I noticed a bump on my male (dakota). It looked like a ant bite, so I wasn't concerned. Well last night he was playing with my female when we noticed blood spots on the carpet. We checked the dogs feet and didn't find anything. And that's when we noticed the bump he had was bigger, and it looked different from the time it first appeared. It is hard and it looks bloody, it is about the size of a penny, it is located on his leg. The blood we found did come from the bump we think he might have hurt himself when they were playing. It dosn't seem to bother him. But I had noticed these last few days he had not been him self and he had been vomiting, I don't know if it's related to the bump or not. I will be taking him to the vet on monday. But I can't stop worrying untill I go to the vet and know for sure what it is. I read other threads about boxers are known to have tumors. Has anyone experience something similar.

It's a good idea to have a vet take a look at the spot. In the mean time will he let you clean it up, apply some peroxide and neosporin? Hopefully it is just a boo-boo that he has irritated by licking or during play. Whenever Cami gets an ouchie, I wait till she is sleeping and treat as I mentioned before.
Good-Luck and keep us posted.

So much has happened since I last wrote about dakotas bump. Well I had a vet vist on monday. But didn't make it due to that my uncle past away with cancer, then my great aunt passed away a 5 days later. So it's been a rough few weeks. I was not able to take dakota to the vet. I had been out of town and a friend had been taking care of him. I felt bad, and still worried about him. I got back in town and made a appt and they got me in right away. Well it turns out he has a tumor and he is having it removed on Tues, my vet said that its common in boxer. He will later tell me the results. So now I am just worried. I read a thread were another boxer had a mast cell tumor. I dont think that is what to dakota has, he just said it was a tumor and set a appt to have it removed. Dakota dosn't seem sick my friend stated he has been very active and just being a boxer. I would like some more info on dog tumors and mast cell tumor and are they the same thing? I know I should have asked more ? when I was at the vet office, but I quess I was more worried about dakota. He is everything to me, he is like my child, and I just started to worry about him. I am a single parent and on a strict budget that does include my babies, I would get another job if I had to to pay his vet bills. Sorry so long.

I'm very sorry to hear about all that you've been through! Here's two links I found that might answer a few of your questions.

I didn''t read the links posted by Jenette (but I will later).
Ask your vet if it might be a histiocytoma (sp?). Very common in young Boxers, not usually dangerous.
My female Katie (waiting for us at the Bridge) had one that was about the size of a dime, flat, sort of "scabby" looking and bled easily. Mack had one as a pup that looked completely different - sort of like a pink warty looking popcorn kernel. In both cases they were removed.

I was just going to mention a histiocytoma. Delilah just had 2 of them removed....... one from her ear (where they are quite common) and another from one of the folds in her snout. They were sent to U of Penna. for biopsy (even though my vet was sure they were histiocytomas) and they came out negative...... just histiocytomas. Good luck.

What a rough few weeks you've had! So sorry to hear about your Uncle and Great Aunt, that must have been very hard. I really hope all turns out well with Dakota. I can't offer any advice, but know that we'll be keeping fingers and paws crossed that it is nothing too serious.

Just a update on dakota. Well it turned out that we had to reschdule, due to the vet had a family emergency. There are two vets in the office but I wanted to go with the one I had been seeing so we schduled for thursday. Which I am glad I did b/c the night before his surgey I had visted the web site and found a story that said ACE warning. After I read it I did a little research and I am so glad b/c when we arrived at the vets office thurs morning, I had asked the vet tech if they would be using ace, and she said yes I explained to her I did not want it used and told her why and she was rude to me, she was telling me that they have used it on other boxers and they had to give him something and on and on and told me to talk to the vet.
So when I took dakota to the back he came into the room before they took him and I told him why and he was very nice about and told me that if I didnt want it used that he would not use it. I was very glad, b/c I hated to have to walk out of ther with my dog. He is a great vet, and dakota is doing great and his lump was removed, stitched up with stainless steel stitches, which I have never heard of but my vet said it would help from having him lick on them. Sorry so long and thanks jenette for the web link, was very helpful.
Aidea & Dakota
