My 9 month old Lady has had blood when she goes poop since we got her at 4 months. We have been to the vet several times and have been to cornell university. Cornell said she had an allergy to protein. Or vet put us on allergen free dog food and Lady's stool became worse. We are on I/D food now and her poop is formed but still alittle soft and she has blood at the end of her bowel movement. I have no idea what to do next. We have spent a couple thousand dollars on vets with no improvement. Does anyone have a suggestion

Have you considered trying a BARF or homecooked diet? I personally have not, although I keep thinking about it. That's one of the first things I would try if Dallas started having problems. Since you would be preparing the food, you have complete control over what she eats -- that will help you avoid foods that she is allergic/sensitive to. Good luck!

Does she always have loose stools? Have they done anything like a endoscopy with biopsies? My first boxer Howie always had loose, bloody,and mucosy stools ever since he was a pup. We tried several different food changes and meds but nothing helped. We finally saw an internist who did a endoscopy on him. He said everything looked ok but the biopsy came back as histiocytic ulcerative colitis (boxer colitis) Hopefully that's not the case with Lady, I just wanted to let you now my experiance with bloody stools. Is there blood every time she goes? I know you said you went to cornell, did you see an internist there? If not and if she is still having that problem, I would ask to be referred to one, hopefully they will be able to figure out whats wrong. I know how fustrating it is when there sick and nobody can give you any answers, hang in there!!! Keep us updated on Lady :D
Yes she did have a scope done. there was a mention of colittis once but they just say she has an allergy to a protein now. Her stool is formed but soft and at times there is muocus. The blood is always at the begining and end of her poop. She doesn't sem to be in pain but i would imagine it has to bother her.

If protein is a problem, I wouldnt suggest trying a BARF diet. Meat= protein, and that seems to be whats causing your babies problem. Protein is in most everything. If your dog has a protein allergy, I would suggest finding a different vet, and finding a food that agree's with her system.
Just because it is allergan free, doesnt mean it is protein free. If I were you, I would do research, because most everything has protein in it, from rice, to peanut butter, to pasta, beans etc.

What have they done to treat the colitis? Metronidazole (Flagyl) is the usual prescribed med for colitis and has had a lot of success.
Amaya had a bad bout of colitis when she was 5-7 months old. She was on Prescription Diet (i/d) and metronidazole for a few months. We were finally able to wean her off the meds and eventually to regular dog food.
Just wondering what they have done so far besides special food.

When they did the scope, did they take any biopsies from inside? It sounds like colitis to me. I know she doesn't seem painful or uncomfortable but with time this will take a toll on her. I would seek a second opinion if she is not getting better. It is not normal for her to have blood in all of her stools. How did they come to the conclusion that it is because of a allergy to protein? Are they giving her any meds to try to help her?
We also used metronidazole and a few other meds to see if that would help Howie, but with his type of colitis it didn't help. But, I have seen other dogs treated for different types of colitis with alot of success.

Our 1 year old female, Sundae, has had blood in her bowel movements as long as we have had her. We got her when she was 7 weeks old. She had an endoscopy when she was six months old but unfortunately the lab damaged the biopsy specimens. From what they could tell, she has ulcerative colitis. We have tried the drugs Flagyl, Sulfasalazine and Tylen, we well as restricted diets from IVF and Eukanuba which had no effect She is now on a raw food diet made from a recipe in the book "Natural Health for Cats and Dogs" by Dr. Pitcairn. Nothing has really worked that well for her but I know Tylen has worked for other boxers with this condition. We are ready to try acupuncture. Any input from the boxer fans out there would be really helpful. Thanks.
Thanks everyone for your input. I think we are going to try to find a vet that has dealt with many boxers and there problems. I just think that maybe something is being overlooked. I just hope we can find something that can help her. Another thing i think adds to the problem is that she is very and i mean very shy...I try to take her out as often as i can to meet other people....take her to the park and to petsmart. She is fine with other dogs but people and machines she is very nervous.....we have a big flood project going on right outside of our house, alot of big machines that scare her to death. I think her nerves have to effect her stomache in someway.
