Hi, I've noticed recently that my puppies eyes get very bloodshot, it's almost totally red around the whole brown part of his eyes at some times... the vet said it's normal, but I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their dogs or what I could possibly do to help him?? thanks!

I have two brindle females and their eyes get like that and they will also have draining. What the doctor has told me is that this is related to allergies. When it gets bad like that I don't leave them out much and also the vet told me to rinse their eyes w/artificial tears. Hope this helps!

My two boxers had blood shot eyes with drainage also. What I did was take their blankets (man made material) out of their crates and replaced them with natural cotton blankets. This seemed to help a lot for my boys.

Bruce's eyes got very blood shot when he was teething - so maybe you pup has started this phase? He also developed lots of eye boogers and a runny nose, but all these symptoms have naturally passed now.

thanks!

thanks for all the comments, I thought it was probably just allergies, I heard they get them pretty bad so it makes sense! yes he's teething too so that could be a possibility, thanks!!

Boxers have a third eyelid (Top outside lid, lower outside lid, and the third inside lid) . This is normal. This very often looks bloodshot. This too is normal. It shows up alot when they sleep. If the whites of their eyes are white than what you are seeing is most likely the third eye lid. There is really nothing you need to do. You already had the vet look at it and I guess he could have explained the situation a little clearer. :)
