Hi All, we have been considering getting Bloc a companion since we can't be playing with him 24/7. A local animal shelter has a boxer up for adoption. What are the considerations regarding territorial issues. Bloc is a 2 yr + male while Rocky is a 3yr old male. They will have the entire garden to play in (approx 1k+ square feet). Will they fight? If there any other thread where this has been discussed, I'm sorry. Please post me a link. Thanks!

No, they won't necessarily fight. Plenty of male boxers get along just fine. It would help if they're both neutered males, of course.

How they get along depends largely on the individual personalities of the two dogs, and how well they sort out their hierarchy. Best thing to do would be to introduce the two of them on some neutral turf and see how they get along.

True. Introducing them to each other first is very good advice. I wish you luck and I agree Bloc does need some company. Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for your responses, appreciate them. Will have to see if spca will allow me to 'borrow' Rocky to bring him to meet Bloc. Their vets claim that Rocky is very territorial and will fight with any other dog, even females. But i'm kinda hoping it will work out....

If the vet says that, maybe it would be wise to heed their warnings. If you get them to meet, I thnk you should not do it in your home, a NUETRAL place. Also if you get the dog and they don't get along, you may be forced to give him back up, which wouldn't be great for the dog. Keep him in mind and be very cautious with this if they say he has issues with other dogs. Hope all works out! You're all in my thoughts!
