bloat, citric acid, and Canidae

Yikes!! We switched Cooper to Canidae a few weeks ago. I specifically went with Canidae because along with its many other great attributes, I understood from their website it DIDN'T have citric acid in it.

He's 14 weeks old and we WET his food. Now I feel like a bad mom. I'll try feeding it to him tonight without wetting it and just mixing it with some wet food...that's okay right? He shouldn't have a problem eating it, he's a vaccum.

I sure hope they get back to Lucymom soon. I can't wait to hear what they say.

Yes, feeding it dry is fine. The only reason for wetting food in the first place is to make it a bit more palatable to young puppies who might otherwise not recognise dry extruded pellets as actual food... If your pup happily eats it dry, there's actually no reason to be wetting it at all

BUT let's wait to see what Canidae's response to Lucymom is on the subject.... my bags don't list Citric Acid anywhere.

We feed our two Canidae' moisten. I don't see cirtic acid on the bag. We switch to Candiae two years ago and have always moisten it. My mom has a guide dog- black lab- that she feeds Canidiae, to moisten also. She has found that if she moistens the food the dog eats just slightly slower 30 secs to eat instead of 20 sec. I think a vaccum cleaner would be slower then that dog.

No, not all bags list citric acid. And the website doesn't list it either. What they said earlier was that the citric acid has been removed from the food anyway - it's just a case of waiting for all existing stock to be used up (which, frankly, could take up to 18 months).

The most likely explanation then is that there is no citric acid and the bags that still list it are just old stock. Not sure if that means it is the packaging that's old or the food also LOL

I never did receive a reply from Canidae and I thought it was interesting that the most recent bag I bought (last weekend) still had citric acid listed. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I know someone else posted their reply from the company (http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95497) so I think we're fine... although I stopped wetting it and Lucy is fine with it.
