blanket nursing

Daisy is my 2 and a half year old brindle. She has a blanket which she has had since I got her as pup. Occaisionally she will ball up the blanket and hug it with her front legs, fill her mouth with blanket and begin "nursing". She will even fall asleep in that position. Once when I was out of town for a few weeks she stayed with my parents, within 5 minutes of being "reunited" with the blanket, she left everyone and was off by herself nursing her blanket. She only does this with this blanket.

Is this just a security blanket for her? Is this a common trait for boxers?

my dog does this too!

My boxer doesn't do this but my schnauzer does! He is 11 yrs old and has done this since day one. He especially does it after he eats. It is so cute! It must be some sort of contentment or security blanket thing. I wonder if it has something to do with maybe being taken away from his mommy too soon.

When I was first married we got a large mixed breed pup and I made him a big stuffed toy out of the bottom half of a blue jean leg. He would do the same thing, he would get that thing and scooch it between his front legs, grab a corner and nurse on it and he would just be working his toes, just like a baby nursing. When he got to be 60 lbs he looked pretty silly, but he did it all his life. If I took it from him to put in the washer/dryer, he would sit in the laundry room and wait. It was just pitiful. When he passed away we buried his baby with him so he wouldn't be lonely.
