Boxer Pal
Hi, I am new to this site but I just bought a boxer pup about two weeks ago and now she is about 9 weeks old. I was wondering if I am disciplining her correctly. She, like I am sure most boxers do, bites a lot and I am constantly telling her NO. I feel bad because that seems to be all I do and I know that she is a puppy and puppy's chew and bite, but sometimes it doesn't seem that she is listening.

If anyone has had this problem and has any suggestions about it or anything else that I may need to know about puppy life. Please let me know. I really want my boxer to be a great dog so I will probably be asking a lot of questions on here from time to time. So any suggestions will be used with great haste.

Thanks,

Ryan

Use the search feature and try bite and soft bite. You will literally find hundreds of posts on the topic, they cover it wonderfully. Good luck with the new pup!

There are a couple of things you can do. First when she bites you cry "ouch". Almost like a litter mate would if it was hurt while playing. This might not work as some puppies will think they're winning and bite harder. The other thing you can do is give it a toy or something it's allowed to chew on and praise it when it does.

I too had a problem with Max biting all the time. (hes 12 wks now). We have a dog trainer who comes to our house to work with Max and he said the main reason Max was biting us was to establish the alpha position. Max has a very dominating personality and the constant biting was his way of telling us that he's the boss. We are working on getting Max to understand that my fiance and I are the alphas. I know its important to let the puppy learn soft biting, but the puppy also needs to know that he does not run the house so there are fewer problems later.
