Why do some if not all Boxers want to nip, chew and bite you...not really bit you but nibble on you?

How does one break them of the habit and when does it stop.

Someone said use Pigs ears...he chewed through them in no time flat. Am now using Hooves.

My pup was adopted last week and is 8-9 months old. My arms are scarred...and my pocket book empty from buying toys.

Help, please

Biting, Nipping

This may not be what you would like to hear, but the last time I brought a new boxer home, I actually got two insted of one. I'm not any sort of authority, but they were a lot less anxious, they were more content and I found that house breaking and other obediance came faster. I can't help but wonder what has happened to your little one in the time before you found it. All that nipping, chewing and stuff could be anxiety.....I'd ask a vet. Remember that dogs are pack animals and they like company. Just a thought.

I think most puppies of any breeds bite and chew like that. It's a good idea not to let them bite you, to give them a toy instead, so they can learn what they are aloud to chew and what not. For most of them though, this habit only stops when they grew up. When my Pénéloppe is very excited, I know she's not able to control her chewing so I let her play with her toys and go do something else (washing the dishes for example ;)). I tell her a big no when she tries to chew my hand or cloth or anything else she's not aloud to, but I prefer to avoid this situations than to use a very negative teaching.

Thanks JulieM! These are very interesting articles and it's so logical that it can't be wrong! I will try that with my baby!

Nipping and chewing

Gator is now 8 months old and will still play nip with my husband unless he tells him "NO MOUTH". He does not try it with me because from the very start 2 months old I would say "OUCH" and "NO MOUTH". It took some time but he learned that his mouth should not be used on people, especially little ones (my grandchildren). He will still try to play this way but with a reminder will stop. We also have toys everywhere and always make sure we give him something else to do instead of mouthing. I wish snorring was as easy to control.
