Cinnamon has always had the ideal boxer body, sleek, able to see her ribs etc. The last few days have gotten me a bit worried thought. I know you should be able to see her ribs, but her vertebrae are also visible. Its mostly her lumbar vertebrae though (just past her chest, not quite at her butt) the rest arent very noticeable. So basically Im trying to figure out how skinny is too skinny. She doesnt by any means look starved and shes very active and doesnt eat very much. AM I just being paranoid? Or should she be packing on the weight. Her last weigh in about 2 months ago she was 24.2 kg (53 lbs)

I believe seeing a lite outline of the last 3 ribs but no vertebrae is a general rule of thumb for proper weight. I wouldn't try to "pack on the pounds" but adjust the feedings for a gradual increase.Has Cinnamon been eating less or more active? Unexplained weight loss can be a sign of something medical.

She eats about as much as usual (about 2 cups twice daily) and shes constantly on the go. Ill try and take a picture of her so you can see what im talking about. Maybe im just makign it out to be more than it is

**got the pics
Theyre a bit hard to see though :(. They stick out more when shes sitting down

I think as long as the medical end checks out you shouldn't worry. Especially in the summer heat. Not sure if it gets too hot where you are, but it's been wicked here! After all, many people lose weight in the summer heat and pack it back on in the winter hibernation, right?

I have a skinny one too who's not a real big eater either! I had been told by a vet recently that he is probably at his adult weight. He's about 24", 50# and 18 mos old. We were just at a different vet yesterday and I asked him about his weight. This most recent vet said that he would expect that he would put on weight over the next year or so, but he may not if he's not a big eater. I voiced my issue with that you can see his ribs, vertibrea and hip bones. He said that yes he would also like to see him put on some weight too, but in actuality he will be healthier in the long run to be a bit underweight as opposed to overweight. I'm still hopeful that we'll get some weight on him yet though!! :)

my boy is the same way.I can see his backbone too and it worried me. but he went to the vet last week and the vet said all was good. he said since he is still young (almost 2 on Sept. 7th) not to worry, that he will be maturing more these next 2 years and will start to add some more weight. Also he just got fixed and that will help too.
