I'll tell you right now, people are going to slam IAMS. If you dog/puppy can handle it, I don't see as to how it will be a problem.
As far as Iams, I know people who have pets on it and they are in great health and are on in years. Same with Science Diet. I know multiple animals on them who are past 20 without any problems, with great coats, great teeth, great eyes, etc, etc.
I have my puppy on Canidae plus it is easy for me to get. Seems like a good food and my puppy loves it.

By mixing like that do you know how much protein your dog is receiving? How many carbohydrates, how much calcium, etc., etc.?
Why not find one of the recommended, high quality foods and feed your puppy only one, thus avoiding the need to calculate calories and grams of fat, etc. for each serving of "mixed" food.
I too use Canidae and my dogs thrive on it. I don't need to add anything at all to it, as it is nutritionally complete.

There is a reason people "slam" Iams. Iams is not a very good food for dogs. It is the truth. Dogs may *look* healthy to you but that doesn't mean that they are.
Dog foods that you can buy in the grocery store or places like Wal-mart ect.... are not very good foods (same goes for cat foods BTW). These foods are the equivalent of fast food to us. If we ate fast food for every meal every day would we be healthy? Heck no! We might be able to survive but we won't be at optimum health. Same goes for dogs. They might be able to survive off of grocery store dog food but that doesn't mean they are healthy.
There are lots of articles online about pet foods and what really goes into them. If you do a search here using the words "kibble" and "dog food" you will find lots of information. You will also find links to some of the best dogs foods made. Good luck to you

Both foods are of low quality and both contain by-products.
Finding a high quality food and sticking with it is best.

I just picked up some more Canidae. 40lbs for $30. Is that a good price? It isn't all that much more than buying Pro Plan/Iams, etc from Petsmart.

I pay the same. But, with premium kibble you feed MUCH LESS than the other "bargain bag" kibbles, so you are actually saving money over those other brands. And the waste is less so you are not paying for a lot of stuff that will end up in your back yard with no benefit to the dog.

We've been feeding him Canidae since we got him. THis pet store I go to has C/I/W, California Natural, California Gold (I think) something called Sojo and a bunch of freezed Barf stuff.

Hemingway - Do you go to Fetch in Scottsdale? I hope you don't go to that awful pets landing. There is one right around the corner from my house and I still shlep 20 minutes to get to Fetch.
