I bought a sign the other day that says:

My dog is so lazy he waits for me to shoot trespassers before he mutilates them. .....Usually.

We all know boxers are not lazy..I just thought it was funny.

I have looked for cute signs to put up too, I guess I will have to make my own.

Meanwhile: The laws are different in each Township in PA. We have 2 clearly posted Beware of Dog signs because in our Township if your dog bites someone in your yard, the "victim" can have your dog put down if you do not have a sign.

As a joke when Maximus was 3 months old (he's 8mths now) my husband bought a "Security Dog" sign. I completely forgot that he actually did hang it on the fence. Well, yesterday I was in the backyard, in the pool with Max and my 3 year old nephew waiting for the air conditioning guy (ugh! we haven't had air this whole week during the heat). I had left a note on the front door telling the guy to come around back because I never would have heard him knocking. When he did get there he knocked on the fence and then yelled he was there. Knowing like many other boxers Max just wanted attention from him I told him to come in. He's like are you sure?, is there a dog?, I don't want to get bit. I'm like yeah there's a dog, but don't worry about him he's only a puppy. So needless to say he came in, he loved Max so much he played with him longer then it took him to fix the AC. All day I couldn't figure out why he was so cautious about coming into the yard, until later that night when my husband came home from work and I was telling him the story. He was like "Oh he probably saw the sign". Then the light bulb finally went on and I realized why the guy was so afraid to come into the yard. The sign was on the fence.

From someone who lives in the Wild West, thats the best sign I have heard of!!! There is not a chance that anyone would ever make it into my yard with my Lab/Akita at home, she sits staring at the front window just waiting for the chance!!!

For someone that works nights, she is the GEST protection for my family. Trixie just wants to lick them to death:)

I still can't believe you have to anounce your security systems like that!!

I have beware of dog sign and no trespassing on all areas of the fence the gates are locked. I have 2 reasons for this Bubba did bite my neighbor but he is not aggressive..someone was trying to break in his house while he was gone and when he came home Bubba was still protecting the yard and he reached over the fence and he nipped him, and we also have an inground swimming pool so it covers us on the insurance..in NC if you have signs up and gates locked then someone jumped over and you are not responsible..

I don't know of the legality issues either, but I always think it's a good idea to alert people that there is a dog on the premises. I have one on my front door (some salespeople/workmen have a fear of dogs, in my experience and they like to be forwarned )and one on my back gate which have a cartoon picture of a boxer with boxing gloves and read;"Watch out...boxer about!" :)

That's great, I like that sign even better than the "I can get to the fence in 3s, can you?" sign that our breeder has and found another for us. Interesting comments about the "Beware of Dog" signs. It might be worthwhile to ask a lawyer just to be sure. I also know someone who has a sign in a window to their front entrance that says "Never mind the dog, beware the owner." But that's not so appropriate for a fence. It's probably good to have something up if you have a meter in the backyard like us, just in case the meter man is making his rounds and your dog is outside, so the dog doesn't escape.

Posting a beware of dog sign is in no way indicating a vicous dog on the premisis it is forewarning people that there is a dog on the premisis so if they were tresspassing for example and your dog bit them you can't be held responsible because it was clearly posted. We have several signs on the back of our fence since we live behind a school and some kids like to try to cut through the yards but heaven forbid if tyson was to knock one of them down just saying hello their parents could sue if it was not posted as long as it is your safe. Thats how it goes in New Hampshire at least I would think it would be the same almost everywhere. Anyone know where to get a funny sign it would look much better on the front gate than a regular one.

one of the officers on a call down the block the other night happened to see it on my front gate as he turned around in my driveway - and since I was out with my dogs for the "last call" break, he stopped and made sure that I knew how much he liked the sign. He said he had never seen one like that. I told him that it sure made people stop and shout out to me from the front gate! (Solicitors included - then I just let the dogs out before I go....they usually woo-woo and scare them away)
