Best time to get 2nd boxer

I got Clay when Addie was 6 months old. Clay just happened to be the same age. At that time she was very reliable on housebreaking, and had been thru obedience courses. I do see the others point (now that I look back) on how waiting until 1-2 years of age is better. Right now the best training is done apart, and I see that they are very dependent on each other. I unfortunatly havent spent the time with Clay that Addie received training wise. Clay was a rescue and luckily he knew most training already. We are just now (at almost 2 yrs of age) "fine tuning" Clays training. I lucked out on my two, and I know that. I will never have just one boxer.

It's interesting reading this...and all very good points. At the same time, it's hard thinking about waiting to get another pup...I am wanting another one too. I just love this breed and Buster has been great. I'm on the wait list with a local breeder, and her pups will be here in October, ready to go home in December...but I will definitely consider waiting this one out. Being a single mom, it might be too hard to give each pup the training and time they will need individually. I'm definitely torn.

 

[Caney Creek]

I definitely think it's important to wait. Sure, you can make it work with two pups, but what's more is the bond that you create by focusing on each dog one at a time. Creek got a good 6 years of undivided attention before Caney came along. Caney is 1.5 years old now, and I'm still loving every minute with her, training and bonding; she's is turning out to be a wonderful companion, and I honestly can't imagine bringing another pup into the mix just yet. As far as I'm concerned, she's still a puppy herself.

 

[ZOE*BOXER]

I have never planned mine, they kind of just happen. Zoe, our first we got from the Louisiana Boxer rescue after losing our beloved Rottie, Cazzi. Flash was a Katrina rescue and Catalina was purchased from a backyard breeder by some coworkers of mine who had no clue. She was so sick for so long once we got her. I am hoping for a flashy brindle next. However, since reccently losing Flash, we are now down to the much forewarned female/female combo that you see in my avatar. We are always watching out for clues and staying on top of their behavioor. Zoe, who used to be the dominant one has been very gracious ( after a rough beginning ) about leting Catalina in.
