Berkley's chin problem

The vet is closed for Labor day and our Berkley's chin looks
horrible.
Over the last several months we have been dealing with chin
pimples.. using oxy pads and neosporin... sporadically when it looked bad.
Well now one spot bleeds frequently and looks quite almost purple and swollen.
Yes the vet will be called tomorrow and hopefully she will do something for Berkley's chin(she okayed the above treatment) and some of Boxerworld's members have recommended it for other members..
We mainly want to know what this could mean for Berkley will it have to be lanced, bandaged, drained.. what is your worst case scenario. It is so hard to keep the chin protected from her asshe rubs of the oxy stuff as soon as it goes on as well as the neosporin. what could the vet possibly do for it?
Advice would be appreciated.

Poor Berkley! :( It sounds like his chin might be infected and he might need some antibiotics. I'm sure your vet will recommend them if necessary. I would try not to worry too much in the meantime.

If Berkley is eating out of plastic bowls, change them to stainless steel or ceramic. Plastic tends to harbour bacteria and will make acne worse.

I hope Berkley is feeling better soon!

Spot would rub his chin like CRAZY on the carpet & what ever else was available for awhile. It seemed like he got hives there, or an alergy attack or something.... But I'm sure not as bad as Berkley!

I used some calamine lotion on the spots, & that seemed to help him. But again, it was a minor thing... Perhaps due to an encounter with poison ivy, poison oak, or whatever....

Hi Joni~~
We had the same problem with Sigmund.
Unfortuantely, he got worse before he got better and we had to put him on Chlor-500 antibiotics for a week. This seemed to clear it up within a few days.
Although we didn't use plastic feed bowls, a major recommendation is to use stainless steel bowls.
We also cleaned his face three times a day with "phisoderm" soap and put some hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil on it.
He hasn't had a problem since.

Joni, Iam sure you will be talking to your vet today, but I also agree with the suggestion if your using plastic bowls remove them right away, this is the most common reason for boxer acne, other causes may be the carpet,carpet freshners,detetergents, bleach,topical sources. Since Berkley seems to rub the medicine right off, I would suggest appling medicine and taking him for a walk right away, keeping his head up and moving, attention on other things. also you might try ice in a towel always soothing, or oatmeal packs. You didn't mention his age, or if this suddenly started, would be interested in knowing this, and how he is doing. hope this helps. Cindy

We have the same problem with Bailey.Know it's not just on his chin. He has these things everwhere. Let me know what the vet says to you.

Nino had the same problem when he was younger. The first thing we did was change his bowls to ceramic but that didn't help.

It turned out that he was alergic to the stuffing inside one of his toys that he always had his chin on.

Notice if there is anything that is in constant contact with his chin (pillow, toy, etc.) that he may be alergic to and remove it. Once we got rid of Nino's toy his chin cleared up and we've never had another problem.

well thanks for all of your input.
We did take Berkley to the vet today and the vet put her on antibiotics for five days. said to come back if it does not clear up
she said sometimes they have to help by going in and cleaning the area but can't with that much of an infection.
She told us to wash her chin with antibacterial soap after she eats too. It's just bad chin acne. We switched to metal bowls when this initially started months back. It just got progressively worse and we knew it was time for the vet.
I said "are boxers just prone to this?" she replied "actually I see more dobermans with it"
so thanks again for the info guys.

My doberman has chin acne. His clears up if I keep washing his chin with hydrogen peroxide and cotton squares.

Taylor had this a few years back (plastic bowls) when we tossed them it continued for awhile but we found that Hibitane worked for it.. we put some on a clean wet cloth and scrubbed gently. Hope that Berkley's chin is as good as new really soon!
