Benefits of AKC registration?

So none of your dogs are registered? And I thought that BW was pro-registering and not pro-irresponsibility.

I find pissing contests like this really annoying, so if it continues in this vain the thread will be closed. The comment about saving registration fees is, quite obviously, made tongue-in-cheek and has nothing to do with the responsiblilty of the owner of the animal if that owner chooses to not pay the registration fees and forego registration of the dog.

Unless the dog is to be bred or will compete in sanctioned events, there really is no imperative to register her if you don't want to. There is no benefit to not registering her either. Since she is a non-breeding / non-competitive bitch, it is purely a matter of choice for you.

I can think of another benefit, ....maybe. Many places have anti-pitbull laws. AKC registration is further proof that you do not own a pitbull. On the other hand, many of these ignorant laws include boxers. Having him registered would not be good in that case. That is the only reason I can think of if you are not going to show or breed them.
Registration is 15 bucks, it's not really a money issue at all. My dogs are both registered and the only reason I did so was to hopefully have some sort of proof of ownership if my dogs were ever taken, pictures of the dogs from various angles and ownership in my name would be helpful if they were to get lost or stolen. Otherwise, unless you are showing or breeding registration is not necessary and merely a preference. SOme people like to say they have a "registered" dog, others don't care. It's purely preference in your situation.

I have no idea how much it costs to register, $10 or $1000, but since it sounds like it's not too much...
What about the prestige factor?
You're proud of your dog obviously (who isn't?) and you probably want other people to appreciate your dog as much as you do. Since they always ask (at least they ask me) if Lady has a pedigree, it's nice to be able to say yes. That shuts up all the snobby dog people who judge a dog on background only, and is important for nondog people to hear (i.e., you could tell them a pedigree is ONE of the tools used for evaluating the quality and responsibility of the breeder's program).
As an aside, I agree with Cubby, posting combat stresses me out.
I will be interested to hear what you decide - we were in a similar position and decided to register Lady since we weren't sure if we wanted to show her, and I am glad we did. -Mariah.

Right now, my fiancee and I are both discussing whether or not we want to register our dog. He doesn't see why we should and I'm a bit torn. I'll let you know whaat decision we come to.
And, you're right, the cost of registration isn't great. I'd rather use it for something more worthwhile - like donate it to a rescue group - since we definitely aren't planning on showing or breeding our puglet. Out pug is doing exactly what she was meant to do, bring a little more life and laughter into our lives and give our boxer much needed companionship.
Already we see signs of his severe separation anxiety deminishing.
