Some of you may recall me posting about my parents Boston Terriers or had seen their photos in my gallery. Cutest little "Boston Terrors" around and they have a very special place in my heart because they stayed with me and I took them from the US to Canada when they were pups.
My parents are in town for Christmas and last night we lost Belle to the Rainbow Bridge. She has very bad epilepsy and is on some heavy duty medication which made her a little zoned out. She's fallen in the pool 4 or 5 times the past couple of days, but we were there to get her out right away.
Dad was putting my mom to bed and the dogs were at the back of the
house running in and out. I was in the kitchen. The dogs were maybe left
alone for two minutes - he went looking for her and found her in the
pool. My dad worked so long to try and save her, but she was already gone.
We'd been teaching her to get to the steps but last night it was just too dark to see I guess. We aren't sure, maybe something else happened, maybe she had a seizure? Its all just replaying in my mind - I can hardly believe it. If only things had happened just a little differently, if I'd been in living room and not the kitchen, if only if only if only. Her brother Baxter keeps looking for her through the house.....so so sad.
She's been through so so very much with her epilepsy and has been such a fighter that to lose her like this is just devastating. I'm not sure any of us know quite how to react - utter sadness doesn't quite describe it.
(More about Belle and her epilepsy here )
Please give your babies extra loves this Christmas time and keep them safe.
Things seem to happen far too quickly and when you least expect them.
